Introducing New Non-Surgical Hair Restoration Treatments

Hair loss and hair thinning are common concerns for both men and women, affecting more than 80 million Americans. While not a medical problem, hair loss can cause emotional distress, lowered self-esteem, and even social withdrawal. Previously, hair loss treatments have been limited to topical medications and surgical procedures. Fortunately, advancements in medical technology now allow for the ability to treat hair loss and thinning without surgery or needles.

Here, we explain what causes hair loss, how it is typically treated, and two cutting-edge non-surgical hair restoration treatment options.

What Causes Hair Loss?

One of the most common causes of hair loss and thinning is genetics, as is the case with conditions like male-pattern and female-pattern baldness. However, hair loss can also be caused by factors such as hormone imbalances, certain medical conditions and medications, chronic stress, and the natural aging process.

Hair loss can show up in several different patterns, including:

  • Gradual thinning. The most common type of hair loss, gradual thinning tends to occur with age and usually begins at the top of the head. For men, gradual hair loss often begins as a receding hairline, while women typically notice hair loss beginning at the part in their hair.
  • Patches of bald spots. In some cases, hair loss begins as patches of bald spots that gradually get larger over time. For men, this type of hair loss pattern can also be seen in facial hair.
  • Sudden hair loss. Hair loss that occurs suddenly and drastically is often caused by a stressful or traumatic event. This type of hair loss is typically temporary and will resolve on its own once the source of stress is removed.

Can Hair Loss Be Prevented?

Because hair loss is often linked with genetics, it cannot always be prevented. However, certain non-surgical hair restoration treatment options can help to prevent or slow hair loss and thinning in the future by stimulating cell renewal at the base of the hair follicle. Additionally, some underlying causes of hair loss, such as nutritional deficiencies or tobacco use, can be addressed through diet and lifestyle changes.

How Is Hair Loss Treated?

Hair loss has historically been treated using special shampoos or other topical hair care products, nutritional supplements, prescription medications, and hair transplant surgery. However, the effectiveness of shampoos and supplements at treating or preventing hair loss is unclear, and many people do not wish to move forward with a surgical procedure in order to reverse hair loss.

Non-Surgical Hair Restoration Options

There are now other non-surgical hair restoration options that are both effective and non-invasive, allowing you to see real results without undergoing surgery or extensive recovery.

GetHairMD™ Clinical Hair Growth Laser

The GetHairMD Clinical Hair Growth Laser is an FDA-cleared device that uses low-level laser energy, also known as red light therapy, to promote hair growth. This laser hair restoration treatment works by emitting photons into the scalp, which are then absorbed by weak cells in the hair follicle. There, the low-level laser energy stimulates the natural cell repair process, increases circulation and oxygen uptake, and decreases harmful inflammation, resulting in hair follicle repair and healthy hair regrowth.

Depending on the severity of your hair loss or thinning, you may need multiple hair growth laser treatment sessions. While it may take up to six months to see full results, many people begin to notice a decrease in the amount of hair loss in just a few weeks after their GetHairMD laser treatment. This non-surgical hair restoration treatment has a success rate of over 90% since its FDA clearance in 2013.

TransDermal Infusion®

One of the biggest challenges with topical hair restoration products such as shampoos is that often, the molecules of the active ingredients are too large to effectively penetrate the skin. Thus, these treatments are often ineffective because the active ingredients are unable to reach the source of the problem at the hair follicle.

TransDermal Infusion eliminates this problem by infusing high molecular weight ingredients into the scalp so that they are able to effectively reach the underlying hair follicle. This non-surgical, non-invasive hair restoration treatment safely and gently sends pulses of electrical current through the skin’s natural water-based “channels,” where it can deliver hair growth serums that would otherwise not effectively penetrate the skin.

Topical solutions such as the U.SK Under Skin Hair Saver can be combined with this TransDermal Infusion delivery system can treat underlying hair growth problems at the follicular level. U.SK Under Skin Hair Saver contains key ingredients such as peptides, growth factors, and amino acids to stimulate hair follicle growth and repair and provide important nutrients to help prevent hair loss in the future.

Who Is Non-Surgical Hair Restoration Best For?

Non-surgical hair restoration options like low-level lasers and TransDermal Infusion can be an effective solution for men and women of any age who have mild to moderate hair loss or hair thinning. Treatment that starts in the early stages of hair loss is able to target functioning hair follicles and therefore help to stop or significantly slow future hair loss.

Because these treatment options do not require surgery or downtime, they can be appropriate options for virtually anyone experiencing mild to moderate hair loss and can easily fit into busy schedules.

Additionally, both Clinical Hair Growth Laser treatments and TransDermal Infusion can be customized to meet your unique hair restoration needs. Our team of medically-trained professionals will develop an individualized hair growth treatment plan to maximize your results.

Bottom Line

There are now several FDA-cleared, non-invasive options to restore hair growth and slow or prevent future hair loss and thinning, including low-level lasers and TransDermal Infusion. These hair restoration options are proven treatments to trigger hair regrowth and prevent future hair loss and thinning.

Do Banana Peels Really Work Like BOTOX?

Banana peels have become a viral skincare trend on TikTok, with people claiming that rubbing the inside of a peel on your face can smooth wrinkles similar to injectable neuromodulators like BOTOX. But is there any truth to this banana peel BOTOX hack?

As someone interested in anti-aging skincare, you may be wondering – can this simple fruit facial really soften wrinkles and give you younger-looking skin? While bananas do contain beneficial antioxidants and nutrients, simply rubbing a peel on your skin cannot penetrate deeply enough to relax facial muscles and dramatically reduce wrinkles like BOTOX can. However, trying this hack likely won’t cause any harm either.

If you want real, lasting wrinkle reduction, professional anti-aging skin treatments are still your best option. Below, we’ll break down how the banana peel BOTOX trend started, whether it really works, and the best alternatives for smoothing away your wrinkles for good.

What’s the TikTok Banana Peel BOTOX Trend?

The banana peel BOTOX hack went viral on TikTok in 2022 after several users posted videos showing themselves rubbing the inside of a ripe banana peel directly on their face and neck. The trend promises a natural, homemade alternative to wrinkle-relaxing neuromodulator injections.

The instructions for the hack are simple:

  1. Peel a very ripe banana (the riper the better).
  2. Gently rub the inside of the peel on your clean, dry skin for 1 to 2 minutes, concentrating on areas with wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation.
  3. Leave the banana peel residue on your skin for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off.
  4. Apply your regular moisturizer.

TikTokers claim doing this simple facial two to three times per week will:

  • Smooth out wrinkles and fine lines
  • Tighten and tone sagging skin
  • Fade dark spots and improve skin texture
  • Give your skin a radiant, youthful glow

Some videos even claim you can see dramatic results after just one use. But is this skincare hack really a natural miracle Botox alternative?

Does Rubbing a Banana Peel on Your Face Help with Wrinkles?

Rubbing the inside of a ripe banana peel directly on your skin won’t provide anywhere near the dramatic wrinkle-reducing results that dermal filler or BOTOX injections can. However, it also probably won’t do any harm, unless you happen to be allergic to bananas.

Why It Is Not Effective

Here’s why the banana peel BOTOX trick is more skinternet hype than skincare magic:

BOTOX works below the skin – BOTOX and other neuromodulators are injected under the skin to target the muscular activity that causes dynamic wrinkles. Simply rubbing a peel on the surface of your skin does nothing to penetrate down and relax those wrinkle-causing muscles.

No real scientific evidence – There are no scientific studies proving banana peels can reduce wrinkles. The only evidence is anecdotal claims from TikTok users.

Bananas may have some skin benefits – Bananas do contain beneficial antioxidants like vitamin C, B vitamins, magnesium, and potassium. And the inside of the peel contains lutein, which may hydrate, brighten, and soothe skin. So rubbing it on your face probably provides some nourishment.

Do Bananas Have Any Benefit for Skin?

Benefits are limited – Whatever nutrients exist in a banana peel, very little is actually penetrating deep enough into your skin to make a dramatic difference with wrinkles, brightness, or tone.

It doesn’t exfoliate – Some sources claim banana peels exfoliate, but the peel is too soft to slough off dead skin cells like a real exfoliant. Don’t expect this hack to deeply exfoliate your skin.

So in summary – yes, bananas contain some beneficial nutrients and properties. But a banana peel facial does not provide anywhere close to the same wrinkle-relaxing effect that professional injectables like BOTOX offer. You’ll get more noticeable anti-aging results from proven skin treatments.

Are There Downsides to Rubbing Banana Peels on Your Face?

For most people, regularly rubbing a banana peel on your face and rinsing it off won’t cause any significant problems or reactions.

However, if you have sensitive skin, you may potentially experience:

  • Mild redness and irritation from rubbing the peel vigorously on your skin (this can happen with any new product)
  • Clogged pores or breakouts from the residue (bananas are relatively high glycemic)
  • An allergic reaction, if you have a banana allergy

To be safe, first test any new homemade skincare ingredient like a banana peel on a small patch of your skin to check for redness, itching, or other signs of irritation. And stop using immediately if you notice any negative effects.

Overall, this hack is harmless for most people. Just don’t expect very noticeable anti-aging results.

What Are the Best Skin Treatments for Wrinkles?

While fun to try, banana peel facials will not provide the same dramatic and lasting wrinkle reduction that professional anti-aging skin treatments can offer you.

Here are a few of the top non-invasive services for erasing wrinkles, approved and performed by dermatologists and plastic surgeons:

Botox

The injectable neuromodulator BOTOX relaxes wrinkle-causing facial muscles to smooth existing dynamic lines and prevent new ones from forming. Treatment takes about 10 minutes with zero downtime. Results last three to four months. BOTOX can treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and bands in the neck.

Fillers

Injectable dermal fillers add volume under your skin to fill in lines, creases, and lost facial volume. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane smooth away smile lines, plump lips, accentuate cheeks, and restore youthful facial contours. No downtime is needed. Results can last up to 18 months with most fillers.

Microneedling with RF

Devices like InMode Morpheus8 and Profound RF microneedle directly into your skin to stimulate new collagen growth. Combining microneedling with radiofrequency energy also tightens and lifts. It takes a series of three to six treatments for best results. Downtime is minimal and results last about a year.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Ablative and non-ablative lasers remove damaged outer skin layers and trigger collagen and elastin production. Laser Skin Resurfacing treats wrinkles while also improving tone, texture, pores, and pigmentation. Downtime lasts around one to two weeks. Significant improvement is visible after just one session.

Chemical Peels

Medium-depth and deep chemical peels use acids to remove damaged skin cells, promote collagen production, and reveal younger-looking skin. Improvement with fine lines, hyperpigmentation, tone, and texture is visible after one treatment. Repeat peels every one to two months to maintain results.

So, Is Banana Peel BOTOX a Worthwhile Anti-Aging Hack for You?

Most people want visible anti-aging results from any skin treatment. At best, rubbing a ripe banana peel on your face provides minimal topical nourishment from nutrients like vitamin C and lutein. But it does not truly mimic professional wrinkle relaxers in any way.

While banana peels are not likely to cause much harm, also don’t expect them to “Botox” your wrinkles away. For real wrinkle reduction with lasting results, your best bet is still to have in-office treatments like injectable neuromodulators, dermal fillers, chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, or microneedling procedures performed by a licensed, experienced provider, like our team at Sanctuary Medical.

These cosmetic rejuvenation treatments all work below your skin’s surface to actively relax, plump, or stimulate collagen in wrinkled areas. And they deliver dramatic improvements that you and others will notice right away – no TikTok hype required.

FAQs About Banana Peel BOTOX

Does a banana peel facial tighten sagging skin?

No, rubbing a banana peel on your skin does not tighten sagging skin like a professional treatment can. The peel only provides topical nutrients, not skin tightening.

Can you use green banana peels for wrinkles?

Some claim unripe, green peels may work better due to more antioxidants. But there’s no evidence that either ripe or green peels dramatically reduce wrinkles.

Do you need organic bananas for the peel facial?

No. Standard store-bought bananas work fine for this hack. Pesticide levels don’t impact topical application.

Can you leave a banana peel on overnight?

No, don’t leave a peel on overnight. 15-30 minutes is enough. Longer could irritate your skin without added benefit.

How long does it take to see results from a banana peel facial?

Sources claim results in 1-2 weeks from 2-3 peels per week. But there’s no scientific proof of dramatic wrinkle reduction over time. Any minor improvements are likely temporary.

How to Find the Best BOTOX® Provider In Boca Raton

Finding the most qualified BOTOX® injector in your area requires a little more legwork than simply typing in “BOTOX near me” and booking an appointment with the first provider to pop up. However, when you know what to look for in a qualified, reputable BOTOX injector, you can easily narrow down your search and choose the best fit for your unique situation.

We’ve broken down five essential steps to follow when looking for a BOTOX provider near you so you can avoid common red flags and get the beautiful, natural-looking results you want.

Check Credentials

The first step in choosing a BOTOX provider is to verify his or her BOTOX training and experience. Although BOTOX and other injectable treatments do not require surgery or downtime, they still need to be performed by a properly trained and qualified medical professional. Otherwise, the risk of complications and poor results greatly increases.

Nurses and physician assistants can perform BOTOX injections and are often very skilled at these treatments. However, a medical doctor such as a board-certified dermatologist or board-certified plastic surgeon should be onsite and available for consultation if necessary.

Here at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center in Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale, for example, our board-certified plastic surgeons, board-certified dermatologists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners are highly skilled at administering BOTOX and filler injections. Additionally, many of our providers participate in training programs to train other professionals on proper injection techniques and best practices.

You can view a list of our sought-after BOTOX providers in Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale on our website, as well as read more about their specific credentials, medical training, experience, and personal interests.

Steer Clear of Bottom-Dollar Prices

While deal sites like Groupon are popular in the cosmetic services space, these apps can be tricky to navigate if you are searching for a BOTOX provider in Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale based purely on the lowest price available. Unfortunately, you do get what you pay for when it comes to cosmetic treatments like BOTOX and fillers, and you don’t want to skimp on the quality of your results or even your health and safety by selecting an injector based on price alone.

There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of a special promotion or discount from a reputable BOTOX provider. However, if the discounted price is completely out of the ballpark of other BOTOX providers in your area, consider this a red flag and keep searching.

If the cost of your BOTOX treatment is a concern for you, talk with your provider during your consultation to discuss package deals or special promotions to help make your treatment as affordable as possible.

Look at Before and After Photos

Most reputable BOTOX providers will have before and after photos available on their websites. Take a few minutes to look through these to get a better idea of the quality of results that you could expect for yourself if you choose to work with this particular practice. These photos can also help you illustrate to your provider during your BOTOX consultation what your specific goals are.

When viewing before and after BOTOX photos, however, be on the lookout for red flags like:

  • Signs that the photos have been digitally edited.
  • Different lighting or backgrounds in the before and after photos.
  • Photos taken outside of a medical setting (i.e. in someone’s home).
  • Photos that are visibly outdated, blurry, or otherwise difficult to see.

Before and after BOTOX photos are a way for reputable providers to showcase the excellent results they have been able to achieve. Thus, the photos should speak for themselves, and the practice should be more than happy to highlight them on their website.

Schedule a Consultation or Two

Once you’ve found a BOTOX injector or two and have verified their credentials and experience, the next step is to schedule a consultation. Use your BOTOX consultation as a time to both meet your provider to determine if this is a good fit for you and to ask specific questions about your BOTOX treatment to ensure this is the best treatment option for you.

During your consultation, you can ask about the provider’s training and experience to verify what you’ve already read online. Other good questions to ask include:

  • Who will be performing my BOTOX injections and what are his or her credentials?
  • What injectable products do you offer, and can I see the original packaging?
  • What can I expect before, during, and after my BOTOX appointment?
  • What happens in the event of a complication?
  • How long will my results last?

It’s also a good idea to take a look around the office to make sure it is a clean, organized environment and is a medical setting — not someone’s home. Staff members should be friendly, welcoming, and willing to answer any questions you might have.

If you don’t feel completely sold on this provider after your consultation, seek another opinion elsewhere. It never hurts to get a second or even third opinion before making a final decision.

Go With Your Gut

You should feel comfortable working with your BOTOX provider and confident in his or her ability to provide you with the best results possible. If something feels off during your consultation or you don’t feel comfortable for any reason, do not feel obligated to book a BOTOX appointment just because you took advantage of a complimentary consultation.

A reputable BOTOX provider should never make you feel pressured to schedule an appointment or agree to treatments on the spot. If you feel any pressure at your consultation, consider this a red flag and continue your search. Ultimately, your priority is to find the best BOTOX injector for you, and a reputable practice will understand this.

5 Skin Fitness Tips for the New Year, According to Plastic Surgeons

Fitness-related New Year’s resolutions are the most popular type of resolution that Americans make year after year. But did you know that with just a few tweaks, you could also improve your skin “fitness” to get a glowing, healthy complexion in the coming months?

We spoke to two top plastic surgeons in Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale, Florida to get the insider scoop on easy steps you can take to improve your skin’s health and appearance in 2023. See what Dr. Jason Pozner  had to say about how to give your skin a glow-up this New Year in a few simple steps.

1. Get a Personalized, Medical-Grade Skincare Routine

When it comes to skincare products and brands, it seems that there is constantly something new being marketed on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. While there are certainly benefits to having such a wealth of information available at our fingertips, this constant stream of new skincare trends and products can leave many people feeling overwhelmed and confused about how to sift through all of the decisions to put together the best skincare regimen for their skin.

In fact, using the wrong skincare products for your specific skin type and needs can have the opposite effect and may make common conditions like acne, redness or dryness worse. Instead, board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Pozner  suggest working with an experienced skincare professional to create a personalized medical-grade skincare routine.

“Medical-grade skincare is a must for taking your skin to the next level,”

An effective skincare regimen doesn’t have to be expensive. The key is to know which products are worth spending a little more money on and which are simply unnecessary for your skin’s specific needs. This is where a knowledgeable aesthetician can help, so that you can walk away with an effective skincare regimen that will maximize results and minimize side effects like redness or flaking.

2. Make Sunscreen Part of Your Daily Regimen

While some skincare products are best for only certain skin types, other skincare staples are recommended for every skincare regimen, regardless of skin type. One such skincare staple is SPF.

“High quality sunscreen should be a part of everyone’s daily routine living in Florida,” says Dr. Pozner, “especially for those with an active lifestyle, such as spending time boating, playing tennis, or working outdoors.” Dr. Pozner recommends using a daily SPF of 30 or higher.

While any SPF will work, some people find that certain sunscreen products can contribute to acne, oiliness, or other bothersome skin problems. If this is the case for you, work with a skincare professional to help you choose the best sunscreen for your needs. Physical sunscreens that contain zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as the active ingredients, for example, are often a preferred choice for those with sensitive skin.

Once you have found a sunscreen that works well for your skin, you will be more likely to stick with applying it on a daily basis and thus protecting your skin from premature aging minimizing the risk of skin cancer.

3. Toss Out Expired Products

Keep in mind that skincare products do expire, so getting in the habit of checking the expiration dates on your products at the beginning of the year can help to ensure your regimen will be as effective as possible.

Sunscreen can be particularly problematic because it is often stored in a beach bag or left in the car, which can accelerate the breakdown of its active ingredients, rendering them less effective at protecting your skin from UV light. Vitamin C is another ingredient that can be particularly susceptible to heat and light. Always store sunscreen, vitamin C serums, and other skincare products in a cool, dry, dark location to prolong their shelf life.

4. Schedule Periodic Fractional Laser Treatments

Even with a customized skincare regimen, you might find that one or two skin concerns such as enlarged pores, dark spots, or wrinkles continue to be a challenge to improve. When this is the case, you might consider in-office skin treatments to help give your skin the boost it needs to self-heal from the inside out. One highly effective treatment option for a variety of skin concerns is fractional laser treatments.

“Periodic fractional laser treatments such as Halo or MOXI by Sciton are an incredibly effective way to keep your skin fresh and healthy,”  “We are able to improve skin texture and skin pigment in ways that are simply impossible with other devices and/or products!”

Halo and MOXI can be used either on their own or combined together to treat a wide range of skin concerns, including sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, pigmentation concerns, and others. MOXI is also known as a prejuvenation skin treatment to help prevent these types of skin problems before they show up in the first place.

5. Adopt Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Finally, all of those healthy fitness-related habits that might be at the top of your resolutions list can double as skin fitness habits, too. The health and appearance of your skin is directly related to the health of your body as a whole, so making healthy lifestyle changes is an important step in achieving and maintaining healthy, glowing skin all year long.

Some of the best habits you can start for both your skin and your overall health include:

Not smoking or vaping
Drinking plenty of water
Getting adequate sleep each night
Reducing stress
Eating antioxidant-rich foods
Limiting alcohol and sugar intake
Getting regular exercise

Whether you are just beginning your newfound skin fitness journey or would simply like to improve your existing skincare regimen, our highly experienced skincare professionals here at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center can help you take your skin health to the next level. To easily schedule a consultation, call our Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale office today at 561-462-0489 or get in touch with us online.

Does Ozempic® for Weight Loss Really Work?

Ozempic® and other brands with the same active ingredient, semaglutide, have become popular on TikTok and other social media platforms for their ability to aid in weight loss, particularly when struggling with obesity. However, it is important to understand that while these medications can help you lose weight, they are not miracle cures for obesity, and all weight loss efforts do require healthy diet and exercise habits.

But if you are looking for a little extra help losing stubborn weight, Ozempic may be able to help. Take a look at this guide to learn more about what Ozempic is, how it might help with weight loss, and whether or not it could be right for you.

What Is Ozempic?

Ozempic is an injectable prescription medication that is used to help control blood sugar for those with type 2 diabetes. Ozempic works as a diabetes medication by helping the body produce more insulin when blood sugar is high, thus helping to stabilize potentially dangerous blood sugar spikes. Ozempic is typically self-administered weekly when used for this purpose.

Although Ozempic is not FDA-approved for use as a weight loss aid, studies have shown that semaglutide, its active ingredient, can effectively reduce body weight. Other brands of medication such as Wegovy® that use this same active ingredient have been FDA-approved for weight loss.

How Does Ozempic Help with Weight Loss?

In addition to its ability to help improve blood sugar levels, Ozempic has been shown to reduce hunger cravings by causing the stomach to empty more slowly. Thus, you feel full for longer, reduce overeating, and ultimately lose weight.

As Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center’s own Dr. Azza Halim told Rolling Stone, however, “[…] there is no magic pill. You still have to do the effort. All the studies have shown that once you do stop the semaglutide, people regain up to two-thirds of the weight they lost. Unless you do behavior modification, you will regain some of that weight.”

Thus, Ozempic and other semaglutide medications work best for weight loss when combined with healthy lifestyle changes, such as getting at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, focusing on eating fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meats, and minimizing sugary foods and drinks.

How Quickly Do You Lose Weight with Ozempic?

Some people may begin to notice weight loss within 1 to 2 weeks after starting Ozempic, while others might not see significant results for several weeks. The rate at which you lose weight and the amount of weight that you might lose with Ozempic will vary from person to person and can depend on a variety of factors, including lifestyle habits like diet and exercise regimens. Generally speaking, most people see a reduction of 5% of their starting body weight by at least 12 weeks after starting Ozempic.

Studies have shown that people who are working with a doctor to lose weight with Ozempic tend to see better long-term results.

Benefits of Ozempic for Weight Loss

When used properly and under the supervision of a physician, Ozempic can be beneficial for weight loss for a number of reasons. Not only does Ozempic help to reduce food cravings and help you feel full longer, but it also has these added benefits:

  • Ozempic improves blood sugar levels by causing your body to release insulin when needed to stabilize blood sugar spikes.
  • Ozempic helps to reduce the amount of sugar that your body stores as fat by decreasing blood sugar spikes. Otherwise, the longer your blood sugar stays high, the more likely your body is to store that excess sugar as fat in order to remove it from your bloodstream.
  • Ozempic may also reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks for those with type 2 diabetes or who are at an increased risk of cardiovascular events.
  • Ozempic may serve as motivation to make healthy lifestyle changes in order to see and keep optimal results.

Drawbacks of Ozempic for Weight Loss

Ozempic for weight loss typically comes with few side effects when used under the supervision of a physician. However, there are some caveats you should be aware of before trying Ozempic for weight loss:

  • Ozempic must be injected under the skin. Although it is self-administered, those with an aversion to needles may find this to be a drawback of using Ozempic for weight loss.
  • Ozempic must be combined with traditional weight loss methods such as making dietary adjustments, getting enough exercise, and managing stress. Long-term weight loss results with Ozempic depend heavily on a patient’s ability to maintain these healthy lifestyle adjustments even after stopping Ozempic.
  • Gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, constipation, or diarrhea are possible side effects of semaglutides.

Who’s the Best Candidate for Ozempic for Weight Loss?

The best candidates for Ozempic for weight loss generally have a BMI of 30 or higher with or without an existing medical condition such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or heart disease. Those with one or more of these existing medical conditions and a BMI of 27 or higher may also be good candidates for Ozempic for weight loss.

Before taking Ozempic for weight loss, it is important to have realistic expectations about what this medication can and cannot do. While Ozempic can help to control blood sugar spikes and reduce hunger cravings, it must be used in conjunction with healthy behavioral changes for best results.

Alternative Options for Weight Loss

If you and your doctor don’t feel that Ozempic is the right weight loss aid for you, you might consider other options such as non-surgical body contouring. EMSCULPT® NEO, CoolSculpting® ELITE, and UltraShape are some of the most popular body contouring devices currently available.

As with Ozempic for weight loss, these body contouring treatments work best when paired with healthy lifestyle habits. However, unlike Ozempic, these treatments do not require that you take any medications or injections and can produce results fairly quickly. Results from these body contouring devices are typically long-lasting, provided you maintain healthy eating and exercise habits.

Bottom Line

Ozempic is an injectable medication available by prescription that can aid in weight loss efforts when combined with healthy lifestyle adjustments. If you think Ozempic could be right for you, talk to your doctor about the benefits and drawbacks, as well as your unique health and fitness goals to create a customized treatment plan.

How To Choose the Best Dermal Filler for You This New Year

Men and women choose to undergo plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments for many different reasons. One of the most common issues that drive people to cosmetic procedures is the frustration of looking older than they actually are. No matter how old you are, age-related aesthetic issues can make you feel self-conscious and even embarrassed. The most common of these issues occur on the face and can include wrinkles, fine lines, skin laxity, and volume loss. Another common reason why men and women choose to undergo cosmetic treatments is to enhance their overall beauty, but that sometimes comes with hesitations. Whether it be a fear of looking unnatural and “too full” or overdone, or just not really knowing what treatment to choose to begin with, those hesitations can get the best of you and prevent you from getting the results that you’ve desired.

While there are many different options available, one of the most effective cosmetic treatments to address age-related aesthetic concerns and achieve natural-looking results on the face is dermal fillers. Below, we will explore some of the most trusted names in injectable fillers and discuss how you can achieve the youthful and rejuvenated appearance that you desire for the new year!

What Can Dermal Fillers Achieve?

TFillers are generally chosen to correct age-related skin concerns on the face. They are also used to enhance your facial aesthetic by volumizing sunken undereyes or cheeks or plumping thin lips that may keep you from looking your best. Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that are comprised of different kinds of chemicals with the most common being hyaluronic acid (HA). While HA is not the only solution used in injectable fillers, HA works to smooth the skin and restore volume in areas of the face that have become sunken or hollowed out with age. HA works by attracting and retaining moisture in the skin. So, those frustrating skin creases can be filled in with your own skin’s moisture. It is important to understand that cosmetic treatments, like dermal fillers, are not permanent. However, dermal fillers can offer results comparable to that of surgical procedures like facelift surgery, neck lift surgery, and brow lift surgery.

Which Dermal Filler Do I Need?

There are many different dermal filler options available to you. This is because each dermal filler is used to target and help correct specific cosmetic issues on the face. While you may understand which areas of the face you want to have revitalized, the simple truth is that you need to schedule a consultation with one of our top-tier aesthetic and medical specialists at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center to truly understand how these fillers can best help you achieve the appearance you desire. At your dermal filler consultation at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, one of our knowledgeable and professional skin care experts will evaluate your skin’s condition and discuss your aesthetic goals so that you can both look and feel your very best.

As mentioned above, each dermal filler actively offers specific corrections to the face. This means that you may need a combination of different fillers to achieve your optimal results

What’s the Best Filler?

Because there are multiple injectable filler options that are each equally effective, there is no single best filler available. Instead, it may be smarter to think of it as “What is the best filler(s) for me?” At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we are proud to offer the following injectable treatments:

The JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers

The JUVÉDERM® line is one of the most well-known names in injectable fillers. One of the reasons for this is there are numerous different fillers within the line. Here is a brief breakdown of the JUVÉDERM® fillers we offer:

  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra: Treats wrinkles and lines around the nose and mouth
  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus: Increases volume in the lips
  • JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™: Treats volume loss around the nose and mouth
  • JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™: Increases volume in the cheeks
  • JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA™: Restores lip volume

Restylane®

Along with JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® is one of the most trusted names in dermal fillers and offers patients of all ages stunning results that they can both see and feel. Here are the options available:

  • Restylane® Lyft™: Includes lidocaine and also corrects lost volume in the back of the hands, cheeks, and other age-related midface contour deficiencies
  • Restylane® Refyne™: Treats mild-to-moderate lines around the mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines)
  • Restylane® Silk: Enhances the shape and volume of the lips
  • Restylane® Defyne™: Smooths out moderate-to-severe lines around the mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines)

BELOTERO BALANCE®

This hyaluronic acid filler is used to soften and smooth the skin around the nose and mouth. Cosmetic concerns such as smile lines, nasolabial folds, and smoker lines can be treated with BELOTERO BALANCE®, along with improving volume in the injected areas.

RADIESSE®

Unlike HA fillers, RADIESSE® offers improvements to the skin around the nose and mouth using calcium-based hydroxylapatite (CzHA) microspheres within a water-based gel. While HA fillers merely retain moisture to correct facial blemishes, RADIESSE® actually addresses these concerns at their root by stimulating the production of collagen in the skin. Not only do the results from RADIESSE® tend to last longer than those from other injectable treatments, but you will be able to achieve natural-looking results that you can feel proud of.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Similar to RADIESSE®, Sculptra® Aesthetic does not use HA as its active ingredient. Instead, it uses poly-L-lactic acid to treat concerns on the face and body. On the face, Sculptra® Aesthetic can address facial fat loss as well as skin creases by stimulating collagen production. Additionally, Sculptra® Aesthetic can be used as an alternative to a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), adding volume to your backside.

What Are You Waiting for?

Many men and women can find themselves hesitant to undergo any kind of plastic surgery or cosmetic treatment. This is understandable, since you are actively changing aspects of your appearance. And while you may ask “Is filler good for your face?” the simple reality is that dermal fillers offer a safe and effective transformation to your skin, and you are simply enhancing your natural beauty.

FAQs

Some common questions before undergoing injectable filler treatments include:

What happens if I don’t like my results?

The great news about fillers is that the ones made up of hyaluronic acid can be reversed. We inject a solution the same way we would as if you were getting the filler to plump the area, but instead, this solution will actually dissolve the filler used, resulting in your pre-filler look.

Are there any medical conditions that may prevent me from getting fillers?

It is always best to consult with a professional, but in general, candidates who have diabetes, autoimmune disease, or blood-clotting issues should refrain from undergoing any type of injectable treatment unless they have been cleared by their doctor.

How do I know that my injector is good enough?

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we are made up of board-certified plastic surgeons, dermatologists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. These professionals are also Allergan and Galderma trainers. You will always be treated by top-tier aesthetic and medical specialists when coming into our medical spa for any type of service received.

Now that we find ourselves coming up on a new year, there’s no time like the present to start looking and feeling the way you want and deserve. Schedule your consultation now so that you can find yourself looking at your reflection and smiling at what you see.

It’s a new year, so why not start it with a new you?!

What Is the Difference Between EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO®?

For many people, the idea of achieving the same results from an intense workout while lying down and not lifting a weight may sound too good to be true. However, EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® do just that. These revolutionary treatments not only build muscle, but they reduce fat, and the best part is that the results can be long lasting and even permanent. Unlike many other body-contouring procedures, EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® do not require any invasive procedure but instead, use science to help patients achieve the body physique and tone that they desire. With all that being said, however, it can be hard to truly understand how EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® actually work. Below, we will help answer those questions to allow you the chance to better understand how these treatments can help you achieve the body of your dreams.

What Is EMSCULPT®?

EMSCULPT® is the first and only cosmetic treatment that can build muscle while reducing fat in your body. This treatment uses HIFEM™ (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) energy to create rapid contractions in targeted muscles. It is estimated that a 30-minute EMSCULPT® session can cause up to 20,000 muscle contractions. This is the same as doing 20,000 curls or crunches or leg lifts within 30 minutes. The only difference is that you can lay back and relax while your muscles go to work. Not only do your muscles become bigger and stronger from this treatment, but fat within the targeted area is burned off. And what makes this process of fat reduction even better is that the fat is destroyed through lipolysis, which is the natural means by which exercise eliminates fat from the body. And to make things even better, once this fat is destroyed, it is permanently gone from your body.

EMSCULPT® is a painless and effective treatment that does not require any anesthesia or topical ointment. For this procedure, you will lay back on a table while the EMSCULPT® applicator is applied to the target area of your body. The HIFEM™ energy will be directed to the muscles, and after the treatment session is complete, you will be able to return to your normal, daily activities without any need for downtime or recovery.

What Is EMSCULPT NEO®?

EMSCULPT NEO® is the next step in the evolution of body-contouring treatments. Not only does EMSCULPT NEO® require a shorter session time, but it can create tighter and more youthful skin. This skin tightening is the result of the RF energy, which heats the subcutaneous tissue to stimulate collagen and elastin production. These proteins work together to strengthen and tighten the skin, resulting in toned muscles and toned skin.

How Many Treatments Do I Need To Achieve Optimal Results?

Though you will be able to notice slight improvements to your body contours, to achieve ideal results, it is recommended that patients receive six 30-minute sessions spaced two to three days apart over the course of three weeks. Two additional sessions should be scheduled six to eight weeks later. Your specific treatment plan will be discussed with you during your consultation with one of our EMSCULPT® professionals.

How to Maintain Your Results?

One of the most common misconceptions for many patients after their body-contouring procedures is that they will not need any kind of maintenance to keep their stunning results. Just like world-class athletes who train for years and years, once they stop exercising, their bodies will readjust and lose the tone, muscle, and physique that they have built. So, it is important to understand that you need to actively maintain your results with a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise

EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® may be able to tone and build your muscle in as little as one treatment, but you will need to continue an active lifestyle so as to maintain your new and toned physique. Lifting weights, yoga, and cardiovascular workouts should be performed regularly to keep your muscles toned and your body healthy.

Diet

Since you were young, you have been told about the benefits of eating a healthy diet, and this is especially true after your EMSCULPT® or EMSCULPT NEO® treatments. Staying hydrated with plenty of water and watching the foods you eat can help you maintain your stunning results for as long as you desire. It is important that you eat plenty of protein and fiber while limiting the amount of processed foods and empty carbs that you consume.

What Can I Expect?

Once you have completed all of your scheduled EMSCULPT® or EMSCULPT NEO® treatments, you can look forward to a more toned, fit, and contoured physique. While many people find themselves feeling self-conscious about their bodies, after your EMSCULPT® sessions, you can find yourself feeling comfortable and confident in the way you look. For many patients who have undergone these treatments, they find themselves being able to participate in the activities they love and wearing the clothing they’ve always wanted to wear but never had the physique to pull off.

EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® truly offer life-changing results. If you are frustrated with your appearance and want to achieve the body of your dreams, why wait to make that a reality?

How Does BOTOX® Prevent Wrinkles?

BOTOX® is well known for its ability to temporarily smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes, brows, and forehead. However, this popular anti-aging treatment can also double as a preventative, or “prejuvenation,” wrinkle treatment.

Learn more about how BOTOX works to both erase and prevent lines and wrinkles, as well as when to start preventative BOTOX treatments in order to maximize your results.

How Does Preventative BOTOX Work?

To better understand how BOTOX works to prevent wrinkles, it is important to first understand how BOTOX works in general to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX and other brands of botulinum toxin injections work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to form. When these muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles do not prominently show up on your skin.

Dynamic wrinkles are those that are temporarily visible when you make facial expressions, such as “laugh lines” or crow’s feet. However, as we age and our skin produces less collagen, these dynamic wrinkles can become static, or permanent, wrinkles that remain on our faces even when we are not making any facial expressions.

This is where preventative BOTOX can help. By reducing facial muscle contractions and thereby reducing dynamic wrinkles, BOTOX can help to prevent static wrinkles from forming in the first place.

A frequently cited study followed a set of identical twins over 13 years. One twin received regular BOTOX treatments — two to three injections per year — during the entire 13-year period. The other twin only received a total of two BOTOX injections over the same period of time.

At the end of the 13-year period, the twin who received regular BOTOX injections had no noticeable forehead or glabellar lines and had only minimal crow’s feet. The twin who did not receive regular injections did have noticeable forehead and glabellar lines, as well as more pronounced crow’s feet than her regularly-treated twin.

What Are the Benefits of BOTOX to Prevent Wrinkles?

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and the same concept is true of preventative BOTOX. It is always easier to prevent or delay signs of aging such as lines and wrinkles than it is to treat deep creases after they have formed.

Getting regular preventative BOTOX treatments also has the benefit of smoothing away any existing lines or wrinkles you may have, so its benefits are twofold: both as a treatment for existing wrinkles and a preventative to delay future skin aging. Thus, this can be a cost-effective approach to achieving and maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin for years to come.

Additionally, BOTOX for prejuvenation purposes typically requires less product with each treatment than traditional BOTOX treatments, so side effects such as bruising and swelling are generally less pronounced with preventative or “baby BOTOX” than with traditional BOTOX treatments used to correct existing wrinkles. Results may also last longer when receiving regular BOTOX treatments.

What’s the Best Age to Start Preventative BOTOX?

As demonstrated by the twin study cited above, starting regular BOTOX treatments earlier in life can have a compounding preventative effect on skin aging. Thus, the best time to begin BOTOX treatments in order to prevent lines and wrinkles is as soon as you begin to notice these signs of aging on your skin. For many people, this occurs in their mid-20s to early-30s.

BOTOX is approved for use in people ages 18 and older, but if you do not see any signs of wrinkles yet, it may be too soon to begin preventative BOTOX treatments.

On the other hand, even if you did not start BOTOX treatments as soon as you first noticed signs of wrinkles, you can still benefit from beginning regular BOTOX treatments now. While injectables treatments like BOTOX cannot address significant skin laxity, they can improve the appearance of deeper lines and creases, particularly on the forehead, between the brows, and near the eyes.

Can BOTOX Be Paired with Other Skin Treatments?

Yes! BOTOX can often be paired with other skin treatments to achieve even more comprehensive results or to address multiple skin concerns. Some of the most popular skin treatments to pair with BOTOX include:

  • Dermal fillers. Injectable fillers and BOTOX are perhaps the most common anti-aging treatment combination. While similar in some aspects, fillers and BOTOX injections have a few key differences that allow them to work synergistically to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results. For example, BOTOX is most commonly used to smooth away lines and wrinkles in the forehead area, between the brows, and near the eyes. Fillers, on the other hand, are typically used to reduce wrinkles near the nose and mouth. Fillers can also add volume to the cheeks and lips.
  • Laser skin treatments. Laser treatments are another popular option to combine with BOTOX. Lasers can address a wide range of skin concerns, including uneven skin tone and texture, acne scars, redness, enlarged pores, and fine lines and wrinkles. When combining laser treatments with BOTOX, your provider may recommend scheduling two separate appointments spaced a few weeks apart, depending on which treatment you have first. Always work with a reputable provider to ensure you schedule each treatment appropriately for optimal results and minimal side effects.
  • Peels and facials. Chemical peels and facials like HydraFacial™ make excellent complements to BOTOX, as they can help to improve the overall tone, texture, and brightness of your skin while BOTOX combats lines and wrinkles. In many cases, these treatments can be performed at the same time.

In Summary

Starting preventative BOTOX sooner than later can be an effective way to delay the skin aging process and maintain a smooth, youthful-looking complexion no matter your age. Whether getting BOTOX on its own or pairing it with another skin treatment, always work with a qualified and experienced provider to create a customized treatment plan that fits your skin’s unique needs.

How Often Should You Get a Facial?

Regardless of age, one of the most common cosmetic issues that men and women struggle with is the presence of dull skin on the face. This can be caused by numerous factors, including the presence of dirt, grime, and dead cells on the surface of the skin. It is easy to feel self-conscious about your facial appearance if you suffer from worn out skin, which often makes you look older and more worn down than you actually are. While you can try to cover up some of these facial skin impurities with makeup, clothing, and/or accessories, you are only covering up the issue. And, in fact, using makeup actually works against you when you achieve the skin quality that you desire. So, if hiding these issues away is not the best option for you, then what is? Well, the answer is simple: treat these facial issues directly so that you can actively fix them.

There are numerous cosmetic skin treatments available on the market. And though many of them are successful in giving patients softer and smoother skin, one of the most trusted and effective non-surgical skin rejuvenating treatments is a facial. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we do not simply offer a standard facial. Rather, we offer the HydraFacial® to help you renew your facial skin so that you can achieve an even more youthful appearance than a traditional facial treatment offers.

What Is a Facial, and How Is It Performed?

The central purpose of a facial is to gently exfoliate (scrub away) the top layer of the skin–this is the layer of skin that often appears dull and lifeless. Essentially, a facial removes impurities from your skin while restoring moisture to protect your skin over time.

At your facial consultation, your skin care specialist will create a customizable plan for your facial treatment. During the actual procedure, your skin specialist will use the HydraFacial® handheld device to rejuvenate your skin. This treatment is comprised of three different steps. The first step is the exfoliation of the top layer of skin. After the top layer is gently removed, a new and fresh layer of skin is revealed. For the second step in the HydraFacial® treatment, the handheld device will clean the skin’s pores of any remaining dirt and debris; this is achieved with the use of a suction technique. Finally, for the third step, antioxidants and peptides will be applied to the skin to offer lasting protection for the new and healthy skin.

Not only can you expect softer and smoother skin on your face after your procedure, but your facial treatment will be pain-free. In fact, many patients have even reported feeling a reduction in stress and a calmer mindset during and after their facial.

What Does a Facial Treat?

Facials treat a wide variety of skin issues on the face. While the most common issue is the presence of old and dead skin, facials also clean the skin of everything from dirt to grime to environmental factors. Facials have also been known to help treat acne and other skin blemishes that often cause men and women embarrassment.

What Are the Benefits?

Men and women have facials for a multitude of reasons; however, the benefits they receive all help to increase patients’ sense of comfort and confidence in the way they look. There are numerous physical benefits that patients achieve after their facials, including:

  • Rejuvenated skin
  • A more youthful facial appearance
  • Clean skin to help patients look healthier
  • Renewed skin cells
  • Better blood circulation and flow
  • Minimized puffiness in the face
  • Increased collagen production

What Are Some Side Effects of a Facial Treatment?

Every cosmetic procedure carries some side effects, and the good news is that the side effects caused by facials are minimal. In fact, there is no downtime associated with this procedure. However, after your facial treatment, you can expect to have some swelling and redness on your face for a few hours. Some patients have reported feeling some discomfort in the skin, though this dissipates after the first day or two. Before you know it, you will be able to look at your reflection in the mirror and smile at the beautiful and smooth face looking back at you.

How Long Will Results Last?

It is important to understand that our skin functions in a cycle. This means that skin eventually dies off, while new skin grows in its place. However, one of the most frustrating aspects of skin care is that this old and dead skin tends to remain on the surface. Your facial treatment is simply a way of clearing away this unwanted and dull skin. The unfortunate reality, though, is that the new skin uncovered by your facial will eventually become old, and the cycle will continue on and on. That is why we recommend that patients undergo routine facial treatments. Although every patient and their skin is different, most men and women require maintenance facials every four to six weeks to continue looking their best. If you maintain scheduled facials, then you can expect continued success.

In addition to maintenance treatments, it is important that you establish a good skin care routine. This should include washing your face every night, minimizing direct sun exposure, including tanning beds, and wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher when you are out in the sun. Another way to help prolong your results is to stay hydrated. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and eating nutrient-rich foods.
