What Is the Difference Between EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO®?

For many people, the idea of achieving the same results from an intense workout while lying down and not lifting a weight may sound too good to be true. However, EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® do just that. These revolutionary treatments not only build muscle, but they reduce fat, and the best part is that the results can be long lasting and even permanent. Unlike many other body-contouring procedures, EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® do not require any invasive procedure but instead, use science to help patients achieve the body physique and tone that they desire. With all that being said, however, it can be hard to truly understand how EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® actually work. Below, we will help answer those questions to allow you the chance to better understand how these treatments can help you achieve the body of your dreams.

What Is EMSCULPT®?

EMSCULPT® is the first and only cosmetic treatment that can build muscle while reducing fat in your body. This treatment uses HIFEM™ (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) energy to create rapid contractions in targeted muscles. It is estimated that a 30-minute EMSCULPT® session can cause up to 20,000 muscle contractions. This is the same as doing 20,000 curls or crunches or leg lifts within 30 minutes. The only difference is that you can lay back and relax while your muscles go to work. Not only do your muscles become bigger and stronger from this treatment, but fat within the targeted area is burned off. And what makes this process of fat reduction even better is that the fat is destroyed through lipolysis, which is the natural means by which exercise eliminates fat from the body. And to make things even better, once this fat is destroyed, it is permanently gone from your body.

EMSCULPT® is a painless and effective treatment that does not require any anesthesia or topical ointment. For this procedure, you will lay back on a table while the EMSCULPT® applicator is applied to the target area of your body. The HIFEM™ energy will be directed to the muscles, and after the treatment session is complete, you will be able to return to your normal, daily activities without any need for downtime or recovery.

What Is EMSCULPT NEO®?

EMSCULPT NEO® is the next step in the evolution of body-contouring treatments. Not only does EMSCULPT NEO® require a shorter session time, but it can create tighter and more youthful skin. This skin tightening is the result of the RF energy, which heats the subcutaneous tissue to stimulate collagen and elastin production. These proteins work together to strengthen and tighten the skin, resulting in toned muscles and toned skin.

How Many Treatments Do I Need To Achieve Optimal Results?

Though you will be able to notice slight improvements to your body contours, to achieve ideal results, it is recommended that patients receive six 30-minute sessions spaced two to three days apart over the course of three weeks. Two additional sessions should be scheduled six to eight weeks later. Your specific treatment plan will be discussed with you during your consultation with one of our EMSCULPT® professionals.

How to Maintain Your Results?

One of the most common misconceptions for many patients after their body-contouring procedures is that they will not need any kind of maintenance to keep their stunning results. Just like world-class athletes who train for years and years, once they stop exercising, their bodies will readjust and lose the tone, muscle, and physique that they have built. So, it is important to understand that you need to actively maintain your results with a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise

EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® may be able to tone and build your muscle in as little as one treatment, but you will need to continue an active lifestyle so as to maintain your new and toned physique. Lifting weights, yoga, and cardiovascular workouts should be performed regularly to keep your muscles toned and your body healthy.

Diet

Since you were young, you have been told about the benefits of eating a healthy diet, and this is especially true after your EMSCULPT® or EMSCULPT NEO® treatments. Staying hydrated with plenty of water and watching the foods you eat can help you maintain your stunning results for as long as you desire. It is important that you eat plenty of protein and fiber while limiting the amount of processed foods and empty carbs that you consume.

What Can I Expect?

Once you have completed all of your scheduled EMSCULPT® or EMSCULPT NEO® treatments, you can look forward to a more toned, fit, and contoured physique. While many people find themselves feeling self-conscious about their bodies, after your EMSCULPT® sessions, you can find yourself feeling comfortable and confident in the way you look. For many patients who have undergone these treatments, they find themselves being able to participate in the activities they love and wearing the clothing they’ve always wanted to wear but never had the physique to pull off.

EMSCULPT® and EMSCULPT NEO® truly offer life-changing results. If you are frustrated with your appearance and want to achieve the body of your dreams, why wait to make that a reality?

How Does BOTOX® Prevent Wrinkles?

BOTOX® is well known for its ability to temporarily smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes, brows, and forehead. However, this popular anti-aging treatment can also double as a preventative, or “prejuvenation,” wrinkle treatment.

Learn more about how BOTOX works to both erase and prevent lines and wrinkles, as well as when to start preventative BOTOX treatments in order to maximize your results.

How Does Preventative BOTOX Work?

To better understand how BOTOX works to prevent wrinkles, it is important to first understand how BOTOX works in general to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX and other brands of botulinum toxin injections work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles to form. When these muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles do not prominently show up on your skin.

Dynamic wrinkles are those that are temporarily visible when you make facial expressions, such as “laugh lines” or crow’s feet. However, as we age and our skin produces less collagen, these dynamic wrinkles can become static, or permanent, wrinkles that remain on our faces even when we are not making any facial expressions.

This is where preventative BOTOX can help. By reducing facial muscle contractions and thereby reducing dynamic wrinkles, BOTOX can help to prevent static wrinkles from forming in the first place.

A frequently cited study followed a set of identical twins over 13 years. One twin received regular BOTOX treatments — two to three injections per year — during the entire 13-year period. The other twin only received a total of two BOTOX injections over the same period of time.

At the end of the 13-year period, the twin who received regular BOTOX injections had no noticeable forehead or glabellar lines and had only minimal crow’s feet. The twin who did not receive regular injections did have noticeable forehead and glabellar lines, as well as more pronounced crow’s feet than her regularly-treated twin.

What Are the Benefits of BOTOX to Prevent Wrinkles?

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and the same concept is true of preventative BOTOX. It is always easier to prevent or delay signs of aging such as lines and wrinkles than it is to treat deep creases after they have formed.

Getting regular preventative BOTOX treatments also has the benefit of smoothing away any existing lines or wrinkles you may have, so its benefits are twofold: both as a treatment for existing wrinkles and a preventative to delay future skin aging. Thus, this can be a cost-effective approach to achieving and maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin for years to come.

Additionally, BOTOX for prejuvenation purposes typically requires less product with each treatment than traditional BOTOX treatments, so side effects such as bruising and swelling are generally less pronounced with preventative or “baby BOTOX” than with traditional BOTOX treatments used to correct existing wrinkles. Results may also last longer when receiving regular BOTOX treatments.

What’s the Best Age to Start Preventative BOTOX?

As demonstrated by the twin study cited above, starting regular BOTOX treatments earlier in life can have a compounding preventative effect on skin aging. Thus, the best time to begin BOTOX treatments in order to prevent lines and wrinkles is as soon as you begin to notice these signs of aging on your skin. For many people, this occurs in their mid-20s to early-30s.

BOTOX is approved for use in people ages 18 and older, but if you do not see any signs of wrinkles yet, it may be too soon to begin preventative BOTOX treatments.

On the other hand, even if you did not start BOTOX treatments as soon as you first noticed signs of wrinkles, you can still benefit from beginning regular BOTOX treatments now. While injectables treatments like BOTOX cannot address significant skin laxity, they can improve the appearance of deeper lines and creases, particularly on the forehead, between the brows, and near the eyes.

Can BOTOX Be Paired with Other Skin Treatments?

Yes! BOTOX can often be paired with other skin treatments to achieve even more comprehensive results or to address multiple skin concerns. Some of the most popular skin treatments to pair with BOTOX include:

  • Dermal fillers. Injectable fillers and BOTOX are perhaps the most common anti-aging treatment combination. While similar in some aspects, fillers and BOTOX injections have a few key differences that allow them to work synergistically to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results. For example, BOTOX is most commonly used to smooth away lines and wrinkles in the forehead area, between the brows, and near the eyes. Fillers, on the other hand, are typically used to reduce wrinkles near the nose and mouth. Fillers can also add volume to the cheeks and lips.
  • Laser skin treatments. Laser treatments are another popular option to combine with BOTOX. Lasers can address a wide range of skin concerns, including uneven skin tone and texture, acne scars, redness, enlarged pores, and fine lines and wrinkles. When combining laser treatments with BOTOX, your provider may recommend scheduling two separate appointments spaced a few weeks apart, depending on which treatment you have first. Always work with a reputable provider to ensure you schedule each treatment appropriately for optimal results and minimal side effects.
  • Peels and facials. Chemical peels and facials like HydraFacial™ make excellent complements to BOTOX, as they can help to improve the overall tone, texture, and brightness of your skin while BOTOX combats lines and wrinkles. In many cases, these treatments can be performed at the same time.

In Summary

Starting preventative BOTOX sooner than later can be an effective way to delay the skin aging process and maintain a smooth, youthful-looking complexion no matter your age. Whether getting BOTOX on its own or pairing it with another skin treatment, always work with a qualified and experienced provider to create a customized treatment plan that fits your skin’s unique needs.

How Often Should You Get a Facial?

Regardless of age, one of the most common cosmetic issues that men and women struggle with is the presence of dull skin on the face. This can be caused by numerous factors, including the presence of dirt, grime, and dead cells on the surface of the skin. It is easy to feel self-conscious about your facial appearance if you suffer from worn out skin, which often makes you look older and more worn down than you actually are. While you can try to cover up some of these facial skin impurities with makeup, clothing, and/or accessories, you are only covering up the issue. And, in fact, using makeup actually works against you when you achieve the skin quality that you desire. So, if hiding these issues away is not the best option for you, then what is? Well, the answer is simple: treat these facial issues directly so that you can actively fix them.

There are numerous cosmetic skin treatments available on the market. And though many of them are successful in giving patients softer and smoother skin, one of the most trusted and effective non-surgical skin rejuvenating treatments is a facial. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we do not simply offer a standard facial. Rather, we offer the HydraFacial® to help you renew your facial skin so that you can achieve an even more youthful appearance than a traditional facial treatment offers.

What Is a Facial, and How Is It Performed?

The central purpose of a facial is to gently exfoliate (scrub away) the top layer of the skin–this is the layer of skin that often appears dull and lifeless. Essentially, a facial removes impurities from your skin while restoring moisture to protect your skin over time.

At your facial consultation, your skin care specialist will create a customizable plan for your facial treatment. During the actual procedure, your skin specialist will use the HydraFacial® handheld device to rejuvenate your skin. This treatment is comprised of three different steps. The first step is the exfoliation of the top layer of skin. After the top layer is gently removed, a new and fresh layer of skin is revealed. For the second step in the HydraFacial® treatment, the handheld device will clean the skin’s pores of any remaining dirt and debris; this is achieved with the use of a suction technique. Finally, for the third step, antioxidants and peptides will be applied to the skin to offer lasting protection for the new and healthy skin.

Not only can you expect softer and smoother skin on your face after your procedure, but your facial treatment will be pain-free. In fact, many patients have even reported feeling a reduction in stress and a calmer mindset during and after their facial.

What Does a Facial Treat?

Facials treat a wide variety of skin issues on the face. While the most common issue is the presence of old and dead skin, facials also clean the skin of everything from dirt to grime to environmental factors. Facials have also been known to help treat acne and other skin blemishes that often cause men and women embarrassment.

What Are the Benefits?

Men and women have facials for a multitude of reasons; however, the benefits they receive all help to increase patients’ sense of comfort and confidence in the way they look. There are numerous physical benefits that patients achieve after their facials, including:

  • Rejuvenated skin
  • A more youthful facial appearance
  • Clean skin to help patients look healthier
  • Renewed skin cells
  • Better blood circulation and flow
  • Minimized puffiness in the face
  • Increased collagen production

What Are Some Side Effects of a Facial Treatment?

Every cosmetic procedure carries some side effects, and the good news is that the side effects caused by facials are minimal. In fact, there is no downtime associated with this procedure. However, after your facial treatment, you can expect to have some swelling and redness on your face for a few hours. Some patients have reported feeling some discomfort in the skin, though this dissipates after the first day or two. Before you know it, you will be able to look at your reflection in the mirror and smile at the beautiful and smooth face looking back at you.

How Long Will Results Last?

It is important to understand that our skin functions in a cycle. This means that skin eventually dies off, while new skin grows in its place. However, one of the most frustrating aspects of skin care is that this old and dead skin tends to remain on the surface. Your facial treatment is simply a way of clearing away this unwanted and dull skin. The unfortunate reality, though, is that the new skin uncovered by your facial will eventually become old, and the cycle will continue on and on. That is why we recommend that patients undergo routine facial treatments. Although every patient and their skin is different, most men and women require maintenance facials every four to six weeks to continue looking their best. If you maintain scheduled facials, then you can expect continued success.

In addition to maintenance treatments, it is important that you establish a good skin care routine. This should include washing your face every night, minimizing direct sun exposure, including tanning beds, and wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher when you are out in the sun. Another way to help prolong your results is to stay hydrated. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and eating nutrient-rich foods.

Laser Season Has Arrived: Find the Best Type of Laser Treatment for Your Skin

With summer vacation season behind us, November is an excellent time of year to start thinking about scheduling any laser skin treatments you might have your eye on. Laser treatments can address a wide range of skin problems, including dark spots, uneven skin tone, acne scars, redness, signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and loose skin, and more. While getting laser treatments, you’ll see the best results if you’re able to avoid sun exposure in between sessions, making this time of year ideal for laser and light treatments.

The first step toward choosing the best laser treatment for you is to find a highly qualified and experienced provider. A board member for Sciton, Dr. Pozner of Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, for example, is an industry leader, training physicians around the country on lasers. As a result, Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center has access to the most up-to-date lasers and techniques in the Southeast region.

The next step is to work with your provider to determine which type of laser or light treatment is the best fit for your specific needs and skincare goals. Here, we outline some of the most popular laser treatments, how they work, and what they typically treat.

How Do Laser Skin Treatments Work?

Various laser and light treatments work slightly differently, depending on the type of laser or light energy they use. Generally speaking, however, there are two main types of laser skin rejuvenation: ablative and non-ablative

Ablative lasers work by gently removing the outermost layer of skin in order to not only treat existing skin blemishes but to also stimulate the natural healing process, thus promoting collagen. In contrast, non-ablative lasers work by heating the underlying layers of skin to promote collagen growth without removing the surface layer.

There are unique benefits to each type of laser treatment and the best choice for you will depend on your specific needs.

What Are the Most Popular Laser Treatments?

There are many types and brands of laser treatments available, which can make doing your own research feel a little overwhelming. We’re here to help by explaining in more detail five of the most popular types of laser and light treatments.

1. Broadband Light (BBL) Photofacials

Broadband light, or BBL, photofacials are a type of intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment that work by emitting pulses of light at various wavelengths to address specific skin concerns. The light energy gently heats the targeted layers of skin, which stimulates your skin’s natural cell renewal and rejuvenation process.

Cutting-edge BBL treatments such as BBL® Hero™ by Sciton are best known for their ability to treat redness, acne scars, uneven skin tone, vascular lesions, visible veins, and other pigmentation concerns. However, BBL treatments such as Forever Young BBL™ can also effectively improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Fractional Laser Treatments

Fractional lasers can be ablative, non-ablative, or a hybrid of both, as is the case with Halo™ by Sciton. Halo is the first treatment of its kind that uses a hybrid fractional laser to deliver both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the same treatment area simultaneously. Thus, Halo laser resurfacing offers the benefits of a traditional ablative fractional laser, but with a faster healing time, less downtime, and fewer treatment sessions.

Halo can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, skin discoloration, and sun damage.

3. Erbium Laser Resurfacing

Erbium lasers such as NanoLaserPeel® offer a gentler laser resurfacing experience than with some other types of ablative lasers, removing the top layer of skin without creating wounds within the skin. The result is a highly effective treatment with little to no recovery time afterwards.

Often referred to as a “weekend peel,” NanoLaserPeel effortlessly brightens and smooths skin while improving minor blemishes such as fine lines, acne scars, or other signs of skin damage.

4. Non-Ablative Laser Treatments

The beauty of non-ablative laser treatments is that they do not wound skin cells and are therefore gentle on the skin and require little to no downtime. Some non-ablative lasers like MOXI™ are gentle enough to be safe and effective on all skin tones and types, even those with sensitive skin.

Perhaps best known for its preventative or prejuvenation capabilities, MOXI™ is a cutting-edge non-ablative laser treatment that can not only improve existing skin imperfections now but can also help to prevent signs of aging in the future.

Generally speaking, non-ablative laser treatments tend to pair well with other skin treatments such as BBL photofacials for even more comprehensive results.

5. Laser Hair and Tattoo Removal

Laser hair removal and laser tattoo removal remain two of the most popular types of laser treatments year after year. Although these treatments are aimed at removing either unwanted hair or tattoos, LHR and laser tattoo removal work in a similar way to other types of laser skin treatments — by targeting the pigment in your hair follicle or tattoo.

Laser hair removal typically requires four to six treatments spaced several weeks apart in order to achieve maximum results. Similarly, laser tattoo removal often requires at least four treatments to effectively remove an unwanted tattoo, though the exact number of treatments you will need depend on factors like the size, saturation, and location of your tattoo.

How to Choose the Best Laser Treatment for You

Understanding how various laser and light treatments work and what they can treat is a great first step to deciding which could be right for you. However, working with a reputable Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale laser provider is the best way to choose and plan the most appropriate laser treatments for your specific skin type, needs, and goals.

How Can I Maintain My Stunning Body Sculpting Results?

The unfortunate reality is that many men and women who undergo body contouring procedures allow their previous lifestyle choices to continue to rule their world. When this happens, the transformative results that they achieved simply disappear and bring them right back to where they started. Maybe you have undergone a body contouring procedure recently (or a while ago); either way, you want to make sure that you keep those results as long as you possibly can. The good news is that maintaining your results is not difficult; however, the harder part of this is keeping your motivation and adapting to a new lifestyle: one that is healthy.

As we make our way through fall and toward the winter months, many people (whether they have undergone body sculpting procedures or not) look at these months as a time to let their bodies go. It should go without saying that this is not a very smart idea. While you can hide some of that extra fluff under sweatshirts and “winter clothing,” the reality is that the added weight (not to mention the unwanted curves and bulges) is still there, causing you to have to work even harder to achieve the toned and contoured appearance that you desire. Instead of letting your body go just to bring it back into shape (if you are even able to do so), why not just maintain your stunning body sculpting results? Well, the truth is that you absolutely can. By maintaining adequate levels of hydration along with a healthy diet and regular exercise, you can enjoy your results for years and years to come.

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we are proud to offer both XEOMIN® and BOTOX® Cosmetic for wrinkle reduction of dynamic wrinkles. Both of these injectable treatments are comprised of botulinum toxin-A, which is naturally found in your body. However, it is important to examine each of these treatments to better understand how they help you with your cosmetic goals.

What Is Body Sculpting?

Body sculpting allows you to be able to have the body of your dreams. Whether it’s to remove excess fat, eliminate cellulite, or just tone up, Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center has plenty of body sculpting treatment options to choose from to help make your dream physique a reality. We offer:

  • CoolSculpting® Elite: Stubborn, unwanted fat cells are frozen with little to no discomfort or downtime. It can treat nine different areas of the body.
  • EMSCULPT NEO®: Tone your abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, while eliminating fat and building muscle at the same time.
  • UltraShape®: This non-invasive treatment removes belly fat with the use of ultrasonic energy.
  • VelaShape®: This procedure addresses fat and cellulite in the abdomen, thighs, and upper arms.
  • Accent Prime™: Eliminate excess fatty tissue and tighten the skin on your thighs and knees.

The Best 3 Ways to Maintain Your Results

Your body contouring procedure is only the first step on the road to your better body. And while undergoing your chosen treatment is something to be excited and proud about, it is the next step that is the longest and often toughest since this second step relies on you to keep working on keeping your new, updated body aesthetic.

Having the motivation to maintain your results is crucial to your body sculpting journey. You can want something, but doing it is a whole other thing. Get your mind in the right spot with meditation, a podcast, music, whatever it may be, and commit to yourself and the goals that you have set in order to stay on track. Exercising, a proper diet, and hydration are all essential to a lifetime of continued results that you can feel proud of achieving (and maintaining). Below, you will find some help to get you started or to keep you pushing through if you’ve found yourself in a rut!

Exercise

Since we were young, we’ve heard about the importance of keeping active. Whether you do this at the gym, in your living room with workout videos, or simply by walking, jogging, or hiking, regular exercise is one of the very best ways to not only maintain your new body contours but also remain healthy and happy in life.

High cardio and low-impact activities and exercises, like biking, swimming, and walking, are excellent when it comes to maintaining your trimmed appearance. They help to increase your heart rate and get you sweating without putting any unneeded stress on your body. And one of the best parts of a cardio workout is that you can find some peace of mind while you’re working your body.

With the exception of EMSCULPT NEO®, the body contouring procedures that we offer at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center only help rid you of fat in various areas of your body as well as tighten your skin. That is not to make light of the fantastic results you can achieve from these treatments. However, if you want to add defined muscle to your trimmer and more contoured areas of your body, then weightlifting is the best choice for you. Along those same lines, exercises like pushups, crunches, and bicycle kicks can help you tone your body even more which builds muscles.

You can think of it this way: while your body contouring procedure gives you a great starting point, various exercises and activities help you develop those areas of your body so that you can look healthy, fit, and firm.

Do I Need to Recover After My Injectable Treatment?

There is no downtime associated with neuromodulator injections; however, you may experience some redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites. These symptoms typically dissipate within about one week. It is important to note that you should refrain from strenuous activity (which includes exercise and lifting anything heavy) for 24 hours after your injection session.

Both HydraFacial® and microdermabrasion can brighten a dull complexion and uneven skin texture. Determining which is better for your skin and your needs is something that you and our skin care experts can do together.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

These treatments vary in necessity depending on your skin’s needs. One thing to keep in mind is that your skin works on a cyclical basis, which means that new skin begins to lose its luster and health (becoming old and dried out) after about one month. This is why it is a smart idea to undergo multiple HydraFacial® or microdermabrasion sessions so that you can continue increasing your collagen and elastin production, which results in soft, supple skin.

In addition to keeping yourself active, adhering to a healthy diet can help you maintain your results after undergoing a body contouring procedure. While there are numerous diets out there, keeping things simple when it comes to what you put in your body is often the best bet.

A diet that includes lean protein (chicken, peanut butter, and fish, among many other foods), healthy fats (avocado, olive oil and peanut oils, seeds), vegetables, nuts, and whole grains can help you stay healthy, inside and out. Not only will you look better by sticking to a healthy and established diet, but you can easily find yourself feeling better (more awake and aware) than you have in a long time.

While it’s easy to talk about the foods that you want to eat, it can often be easier (and even more important) to discuss the foods that you should avoid. Saturated fat, processed foods, and foods that are high in salt and sugar content can all take a serious toll on your physique. Many men and women unfortunately completely erase their transformed appearance after their body contouring procedure because they go right back to eating fast food and drinking sugary drinks.

Hydration

We’ve all heard about the importance of drinking water, so stick to it! Hydrating regulates your body temperature, keeps your joints lubricated, prevents infections, delivers nutrients to cells, and keeps your organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood, which can almost guarantee a better quality of life.

All of these things combined with the right mindset will make you unstoppable! Show off your physique and be proud and confident for years!

BOTOX® Cosmetic Day 2022

One of the most frustrating facial imperfections is the appearance of wrinkles. While wrinkles all look the same (fine lines that distract from the natural beauty of our facial skin), the truth is that not all wrinkles are the same. While static wrinkles are those lines in the skin that show as a result of age, dynamic wrinkles are those skin creases that result from continuous muscle contractions. Whether you are squinting, frowning, smiling, or any other common facial expression, you can develop these dynamic wrinkles at any age. Many men and women who struggle with dynamic wrinkles feel self-conscious and embarrassed by them. If you have dynamic wrinkles on the face, you can try to cover them up with glasses, makeup, or other accessories…OR you can get rid of those pesky wrinkles on your face in as little as a 15 minute appointment with your cosmetic dermatology injector.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most trusted and effective cosmetic treatments available to men and women of all ages. In fact, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular cosmetic procedure in America! How Long Has BOTOX® Cosmetic Been Around?

BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved by the FDA on April 15, 2002, making 2022 the treatment’s 20th birthday! Since the beginning, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been helping millions of men and women achieve softer, smoother, more wrinkle-free skin. And over these last 20 years, BOTOX® Cosmetic has become synonymous with facial rejuvenation that makes you feel as good as you look and look as good as you feel.

How Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Performed?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple and easy injection treatment that can be completed in as little as 15 minutes. At your consultation, you will discuss your skin frustrations with your skincare professional, who will also evaluate your condition to create a treatment plan for you. Results generally start to take effect in 10-14 days after your treatment.

For your actual treatment, your skincare professional will inject the BOTOX® Cosmetic solution into the troublesome muscle. The main ingredient in the BOTOX® Cosmetic solution is botulinum toxin-A. This solution is a neuromodulator, which means that it temporarily blocks the muscle from sending signals to the brain (essentially paralyzing the muscle). Because of this, the muscle is unable to contract (which means no more wrinkles!).

Once the injections are completed, your treatment session is done. And because this treatment does not require any downtime, you will be able to get back to your normal, daily activities without missing a step! You should avoid the gym and working out for your first day, though!

How Can BOTOX® Cosmetic Help Me?

So many people suffer from dynamic wrinkles. Maybe you’re constantly out in the sun, which causes you to squint and struggle with crow’s feet. Or maybe you smile all the time, which causes you to have lines around your eyes and mouth. The reasons that people develop dynamic wrinkles go on and on. But whatever the cause of your wrinkles, you can look forward to having them disappear after your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. Smooth skin and improved confidence are just a quick injection away!

How Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Different From Other Injectable Treatments?

So many people mistakenly believe that dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic are the same things. However, besides both being injectable treatments that can help the aesthetic of your skin, the similarities end there. While BOTOX® Cosmetic helps to smooth the skin by getting rid of wrinkles and fine lines, dermals (like JUVÉDERM®, BELOTERO BALANCE®, Restylane®, and RADIESSE®, among others) work to restore lost volume in areas of the face, such as the cheeks and under the eyes. Additionally, dermal fillers can be used to increase the size and fullness of the lips.

Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers can help restore youthfulness to the appearance of your face. Because of their effectiveness, many men and women choose to combine these treatments to achieve a more complete facial transformation (though usually they are performed several weeks apart). If you are interested in combining injectable treatments, then make sure to discuss this with your skin specialist at your consultation.

XEOMIN® vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic

Wrinkles are inevitable. It is likely that you already have some on your face around your eyes or on your forehead, or you may see that they are starting to form. That’s completely normal, and unfortunately, it’s a part of life. Wrinkles and fine lines form on our skin (primarily our faces) for two reasons. The first reason is that the wrinkles are caused by a loss of collagen in the skin, which often occurs in older men and women (as collagen production naturally slows down as we age); these types of wrinkles are called static wrinkles. The second reason that wrinkles form on our skin is from constant contractions of specific muscles, such as squinting or smiling; these types of wrinkles are called dynamic wrinkles, and dynamic wrinkles can occur to men and women of any age.

There are many different wrinkle reduction treatments on the market, and because of this, it can be extremely difficult to tell which procedure is right for you. The truth is that most facial wrinkles are treated in a similar fashion, which means that it can be up to you and your injection specialist to determine which treatment is the best.

What Is XEOMIN®?

XEOMIN® is a neuromodulator that was developed to treat vertical frown lines that develop between the eyebrows. The XEOMIN® neurotoxin formulation (the acting ingredient in the injection) is purer than those found in other neuromodulators and does not contain any additives. The belief with XEOMIN® is that you are only receiving the necessary ingredients and proteins you need. XEOMIN® was FDA approved for use in 2010 and is designed to block the release of chemicals that cause the muscles to contract, thereby preventing repetitive facial expressions from leaving lines and wrinkles on the face. Essentially, the troublesome muscles that cause the dynamic wrinkles are temporarily paralyzed so that they cannot contract, which results in softened frown lines.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neurotoxin injectable treatment that helps to correct fine lines and wrinkles that appear around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the brows, and on the forehead. For this treatment, the BOTOX® Cosmetic solution is injected into the face to block any signals sent from the muscles to the brain. As with XEOMIN®, this temporary paralysis keeps your muscles from contracting and causing wrinkles in the skin.

Is XEOMIN® Better Than BOTOX® Cosmetic?

While this is a common question that many patients ask, especially when they are deciding which injectable treatment to have performed, the truth is that there is really no good answer to this question. Both XEOMIN® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are great options for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Luckily, at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer both injectable treatments and can guide you with our expertise in the right direction after your thorough assessment. During your injectable consultation, our injection specialists will be able to examine and assess your wrinkles, your skin condition, and your health history, which will all be used to determine which neuromodulator would be best suited to you, your wrinkles and lines, and your goals for your facial aesthetic.

How Is an Injectable Treatment Performed?

Many people have the misconception that dermal fillers (such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and RADIESSE®) and injectable treatments (XEOMIN® and BOTOX® Cosmetic) are the same. However, not only are they different treatments (to correct different issues), but the injection process for each of these treatments is different. Dermal fillers are used to correct volume loss in facial skin, so the injection is made just under the skin. For neuromodulator treatments, the solution is injected directly into the muscle to block signals and stop the muscle from contracting.

Not only are injectable treatments effective, but they are relatively pain-free. And most injectable treatments can be completed in under thirty minutes, which means that you can get back to enjoying your life before you know it. Neither XEOMIN® nor BOTOX® Cosmetic offer permanent results, with each offering results that last approximately three to four months. However, continued maintenance treatments can keep your skin looking and feeling as smooth as you want for as long as you want.

What’s a Lip Flip?

BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers are two treatments that almost always come up when people talk to friends about non-surgical aesthetic treatments. And this is for good reason. Both of these treatments (BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers, respectively) are tried and true procedures that offer stunning and rejuvenating results for men and women of all ages.

The truth is that injectable treatments are versatile and can truly alter the appearance of your face, allowing you to achieve a more natural and youthful aesthetic. However, many people think of BOTOX® Cosmetic injectables only in connection with smoothing wrinkles and fine lines in the facial skin (usually the forehead and around the eyes, nose, and mouth). However, the reality is that this minimally invasive treatment can be used for much more. And one of the most prominent areas of your face that BOTOX® Cosmetic can help correct (through augmentation) is the lips.

Let’s say you want to enhance the appearance of your lips but you want to ditch the dermal fillers this time and try something different. Well, at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a great alternative for you to consider. Using BOTOX® Cosmetic to enhance the appearance of your upper lip is known as a lip flip, which can be a subtle yet dramatic change to your pout. You may be wondering, “What exactly is a lip flip?” Well, you’ve come to the right place!

What Is a Lip Flip Procedure?

A lip flip procedure is comprised of an injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic in the upper lip designed to relax the muscles to create a natural “flip” to the lip. This allows your upper lip to look fuller and more visible.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe, trusted, and FDA-approved prescription medication that temporarily paralyzes the targeted muscles, keeping them from contracting and causing wrinkles and fine lines to form. The solution is injected into the center of the lip (near the cupid’s bow) and at the corners of the mouth to relax the muscles for a more defined look. Many prospective BOTOX® Cosmetic patients worry about pain and discomfort both during and after the treatment; however, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a relatively pain-free procedure that does not require any downtime.

Pros and Cons

Dermal filler injections tend to be the treatment option that many men and women associate with increasing the size of the lips. However, as mentioned above, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a fantastic alternative that offers revitalizing results. As with any plastic surgery procedure or cosmetic treatment, there are positives and drawbacks. Below, you will find some specifics to better help you understand the benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections for augmenting the lips.

PROS CONS
  • More definition to the upper lip
  • Hides a gummy smile
  • Prevents vertical lip lines
  • More affordable
  • Quick treatment
  • Results may be too subtle
  • Difficulty whistling, spitting, using a straw, pronouncing certain words
  • Takes longer to see results

  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, and exercise for 24 hours
  • Do not push on the treated area, lie down, or bend below the waist for four hours

HydraFacial® vs. Microdermabrasion

Over time, the skin on our faces can become worn down with dirt, grime, dead skin cells, and other impurities that can leave our faces looking old and much less attractive. These issues with the skin can often leave men and women of all ages feelings self-conscious, embarrassed, and frustrated. While the saying goes, “Put your best face forward,” the reality is that it can seem nearly impossible to do that when you know that your face is not as smooth and youthful as you want it to be.

While these various facial skin blemishes can make you feel like you can’t enjoy yourself in public, the good news is that there are various cosmetic treatments available that can help correct some of these frustrations. However, the biggest question you need to ask yourself is not “Should I have a treatment done?” but rather, “Which treatment is right for me?” Two of the most common and trusted facial rejuvenating treatments are HydraFacial® and microdermabrasion. Many patients have a misconception that these two treatments are interchangeable when the reality is that they achieve different results for different issues. Here, you will find information about each of these treatments so that you can better decide how to revitalize your skin.

What Is a HydraFacial®?

With the revolutionary HydraFacial® treatment, your skincare expert will use a handheld device that creates a vortex motion to exfoliate your facial skin. This exfoliation includes removing dead skin and other debris from your skin to it smoother and softer than it has been in years.

A HydraFacial® treatment is comprised of four different facial treatments. The first of these treatments is the cleansing and exfoliation of your skin. The second portion of a HydraFacial® is a chemical peel, where the handheld device (or wand) provides a chemical solution made up of salicylic and glycolic acids to clean dirt that is lodged deep within your pores. The third step is the extraction phase, where the wand essentially vacuums up remaining impurities from your skin and pores. Finally, a hydrating serum is applied to your skin. This hydrating serum also includes peptides, antioxidants, and other helpful nutrients. Once all of these steps are complete, you can look forward to achieving facial skin that is more hydrated, cleansed, and youthful, which can allow you to feel more comfortable and confident with your appearance.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Chances are that you have heard of microdermabrasion; however, many people do not fully understand what this treatment consists of. Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure in which the top layers of skin are removed to allow for new and healthy skin to be revealed. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we are proud to offer two variations of this treatment: a crystal-emitting spray or a diamond-tip handpiece. With the crystal spray, extremely fine crystals are directed to the treatment area at a high speed. These crystals are then vacuumed up immediately, along with the upper layer of skin and any dirt and grime on the surface. For the diamond-tip microdermabrasion, a handheld device called a wand is drawn across the treatment area to exfoliate the skin.

Am I a Candidate?

While both of these treatments can offer stunning results to your facial skin, it is important to realize that some impurities and blemishes are better treated with either HydraFacial® or microdermabrasion. If you are interested in rejuvenating your tired and dull complexion, then make sure to schedule a consultation with one of our trained and knowledgeable skincare professionals. During your consultation, you will be able to discuss your concerns and cosmetic goals, which can help your skin service provider determine which treatment can best help you achieve the goals you desire.

Ideal candidates should be non-smoking men and women in good general health who have realistic expectations of their goals.

What is Better Microdermabrasion or HydraFacial®?

The reality is that neither of these procedures is necessarily better than the other, though each procedure can better address certain skin conditions. Some of the perks and benefits of each include:

HydraFacial® Microdermabrasion
  • Allows for customization
  • Penetrates more deeply
  • Can treat acne
  • Quicker
  • Gentler
  • Lessens wrinkles
  • Addresses hyperpigmentation
  • Treats acne scars
  • Reduces sun-damaged skin
  • Higher chance of red skin, slight bruising, and skin dryness

For more information about HydraFacial® or microdermabrasion at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, please call our office at 561-234-4026 or fill out our online contact form.
