What to Expect from the Hydrafacial Treatment

If your skin’s been looking dull, tired, or just not its best, you’re not alone. With so many facial treatments, it can be hard to know where to start, especially if you’re new to professional skincare. That’s where the HydraFacial comes in.

HydraFacial treatments are performed every 15 seconds around the world, according to Allure, and for good reason: they combine deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation, painless extractions, and intense hydration—all in a single session with zero downtime.

If you’re considering a HydraFacial in Boca Raton or Fort Lauderdale, here’s everything you need to know before your first appointment.

What Is a HydraFacial and Why Is It So Popular?

A HydraFacial is a non-invasive treatment that delivers instant results by cleansing, extracting, and hydrating your skin using patented vortex technology. It’s completely customizable, making it a great fit for nearly every skin type and concern—from acne and blackheads to dryness and fine lines.

People love HydraFacials because:

  • Results are visible immediately
  • It’s gentle, soothing, and requires no recovery time
  • You leave with glowing, hydrated, and smooth skin

It’s become a go-to for celebrities, professionals, and skincare lovers alike.

What to Expect During Your First HydraFacial Session

Your first HydraFacial at Sanctuary Medical is designed to be relaxing and results-driven from the moment you walk in.

Here’s what the experience looks like, step by step:

  • Warm Welcome & Consultation
You’ll be greeted by a skincare specialist who will discuss your skin goals and tailor the treatment to your needs.
  • Deep Cleanse & Gentle Exfoliation
We begin by cleansing and exfoliating the skin to remove dead cells and prep for treatment.
  • Painless Extraction
Using vortex suction, blackheads, oils, and impurities are extracted without discomfort or redness.
  • Hydration & Nourishment
A cocktail of peptides, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and growth factors is infused into the skin to deeply hydrate and rejuvenate.
  • Glow & Go
There’s no downtime—just smooth, refreshed, and glowing skin you’ll notice immediately.

Suggested Add-On: Dermaplaning for an Even Better Glow

Many first-time clients pair their HydraFacial with dermaplaning for an extra boost in smoothness and radiance. This add-on treatment uses a sterile surgical blade to gently remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells, allowing HydraFacial serums to penetrate even more effectively and leaving the skin ultra-soft and glowing.

It’s the perfect pairing for anyone looking to level up their results.

How Long Does a HydraFacial Take and When Will You See Results?

A typical session lasts about 30 to 45 minutes, making it the perfect “lunchtime facial.” You’ll see visible results right away, and your skin will continue to feel smooth and hydrated for several days. Many clients love scheduling a HydraFacial before a special event or as part of a monthly skincare routine.

What Skin Concerns Can HydraFacial Help With?

HydraFacials are versatile and effective for a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Enlarged pores and congestion
  • Oily or acne-prone skin
  • Dryness and dullness
  • Sun damage and pigmentation

Because the treatment is personalized, your provider can adjust the serums and suction strength to meet your skin’s specific needs.

How Can My HydraFacial Results Last Longer?

Sclerotherapy Benefits: Effective Vein Treatment at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center

Varicose and spider veins affect millions of Americans, causing both cosmetic concerns and physical discomfort. For those seeking a minimally invasive solution, sclerotherapy offers notable results with minimal downtime. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center in Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, our expert team provides professional sclerotherapy treatments that eliminate problematic veins safely and effectively.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose veins and spider veins. During treatment, your specialist injects a solution called a sclerosant directly into your affected veins. This solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view, and blood redirects through healthier veins.

The procedure typically takes 15 to 30 minutes per session, depending on the number and size of veins being treated. The treatment has been used successfully since the 1940s and continues to be refined with modern medical advances.

Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure, describing the sensation as similar to a small pinch or slight burning that quickly subsides.

Top Benefits of Sclerotherapy Treatment

Minimally Invasive Procedure

Unlike surgical vein removal, sclerotherapy requires no incisions or general anesthesia. The procedure uses only small needles to inject the sclerosant solution, making it less invasive than traditional vein surgery.

This approach reduces risks associated with surgery and eliminates concerns about scarring from incisions. The minimally invasive nature of sclerotherapy makes it an excellent option if you prefer to avoid surgical procedures.

Quick Treatment Sessions

Most sclerotherapy sessions can be completed in under 30 minutes, making them convenient if you have a busy schedule and can’t afford significant downtime.

You can often schedule treatments during your lunch break and return to work immediately afterward. These brief sessions also cause less stress and anxiety compared to lengthy surgical procedures.

Immediate Return to Activities

After your sclerotherapy treatment, you can resume most normal activities immediately. While you’ll need to wear compression stockings for 1-2 weeks following treatment, and should avoid strenuous exercise for a few days, there’s no lengthy recovery period.

This quick return to daily routines contrasts with surgical vein treatments, which may require weeks of recovery and activity restrictions. Most patients can drive themselves home after the procedure and continue with their regular schedule.

High Success Rate

Clinical studies show that sclerotherapy successfully treats spider veins in 75% to 90% of cases, with larger varicose veins responding well too. You may require multiple sessions for optimal results, especially for larger or more numerous veins.

Research published in dermatology journals shows that most patients (over 80%) are satisfied with their sclerotherapy results. The procedure’s long history of clinical use supports its safety and effectiveness for most vein types.

Reduction in Symptoms

Beyond cosmetic improvements, sclerotherapy can alleviate uncomfortable symptoms you may experience with problematic veins, including:

  • Burning sensations
  • Swelling
  • Night cramps
  • Restless legs
  • General discomfort
  • Feelings of heaviness in the legs
  • Itching around veins

Many of our patients at Sanctuary Medical seek treatment primarily for symptom relief and report significant improvement in their comfort level and quality of life after sclerotherapy.

Long-lasting Results

Once your veins have been successfully treated with sclerotherapy, they won’t return. While new veins may develop over time, the treated veins are permanently gone.

You’ll typically notice gradual improvement over several weeks as your body naturally clears away the treated veins. Full results usually become visible within three to six months after your final treatment session, with improvements lasting for years.

Cost-effective Solution

Compared to surgical vein treatments, sclerotherapy is more affordable, particularly when considering the minimal downtime and lower complication risks.

The cost-effectiveness extends beyond the procedure price to include practical benefits like no hospital stay, minimal time off work and fewer follow-up appointments. Sclerotherapy at Sanctuary Medical typically ranges from $300-$600 per session, depending on the number and size of veins treated.

How Sclerotherapy Works

Understanding the sclerotherapy process can help you feel more comfortable about the treatment. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we’ve refined our approach to maximize your comfort and results.

During your sclerotherapy procedure, our experienced professionals follow these steps:

  1. The treatment area is cleaned and prepared.
  2. Using a fine needle, the sclerosant solution is injected directly into your affected vein.
  3. The solution causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut.
  4. Blood flow is naturally redirected to healthier veins.
  5. Over weeks following treatment, your body absorbs the collapsed vein.
  6. Compression stockings are applied and should be worn as directed to enhance results.

Your body’s natural healing processes break down the treated veins, which are then absorbed and eliminated. This occurs over several weeks, with improvements becoming increasingly visible as time passes.

Our specialists select the most appropriate sclerosing agent based on the size and location of your veins, customizing treatment to your specific condition.

Who Makes a Good Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

If you’re struggling with spider veins or small to medium-sized varicose veins, you may be an excellent candidate for sclerotherapy. This treatment is particularly popular among women between 30 and 60 years old, though men can benefit as well.

You’re likely a good candidate for sclerotherapy if you:

  • Have spider veins or small to medium-sized varicose veins
  • Experience discomfort from your veins
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have no history of blood clots
  • Are in good general health
  • Have realistic expectations about results

During your consultation at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, our specialists will evaluate your vein condition, medical history and treatment goals to determine if sclerotherapy is right for you.

For patients with very large varicose veins or complicated vein conditions, we may recommend alternative or complementary treatments. Each treatment plan addresses your specific needs and circumstances.

Preparing for Your Sclerotherapy Treatment

To get the best results from your sclerotherapy treatment, we recommend:

  • Avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements (like aspirin or fish oil) for 1 week before treatment, if medically approved
  • Not applying lotion to your legs on the day of treatment
  • Wearing loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment
  • Bringing compression stockings if you already own them (otherwise we can provide recommendations)
  • Planning your treatment during cooler months when it’s easier to wear compression garments and keep treated areas covered

Many patients prefer winter treatments since the recovery period can involve wearing compression stockings and temporary bruising is easily concealed under clothing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sclerotherapy

How many sclerotherapy treatments will I need?

Most patients require two to four treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart for optimal results. The number of sessions depends on the size, number and location of the veins being treated.

Is sclerotherapy painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. The injection may cause a slight burning sensation that subsides quickly. At Sanctuary Medical, we use the finest needles available and can apply topical numbing cream before treatment for sensitive areas. Many patients describe the discomfort as similar to a small bug bite that lasts only seconds.

How soon will I see results from sclerotherapy?

Small spider veins often respond within three to six weeks of treatment. Larger veins may take three to four months to show full results. Multiple sessions are typically required for complete clearance.

What are the possible side effects of sclerotherapy?

Common side effects include temporary bruising, redness, itching, and swelling at the injection sites. These typically resolve within days to weeks. Rarely, patients may experience skin discoloration, small ulcers, or tiny new blood vessels that usually fade over time.

Can sclerotherapy treat all types of veins?

Sclerotherapy works best for spider veins and small to medium-sized varicose veins. Very large varicose veins may require different treatments such as endovenous laser therapy or surgical removal.

How long do sclerotherapy results last?

Once a vein is treated successfully, it will not return. However, new veins may develop over time due to genetic predisposition and lifestyle factors. Maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, and avoiding prolonged standing can help prevent new veins from forming.

Is sclerotherapy covered by insurance?

When performed for cosmetic purposes, sclerotherapy is typically not covered by insurance. However, if the treatment is deemed medically necessary due to symptoms or complications, partial coverage may be available. Our staff can help determine potential insurance coverage before treatment.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Tattoos have long been a form of personal expression, but circumstances change. Many people find themselves wanting to remove or fade a tattoo they once loved. Laser tattoo removal has become the gold standard for eliminating unwanted ink, but how effective is this treatment? At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center in Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, we offer advanced laser tattoo removal that can significantly reduce or completely eliminate unwanted tattoos.

How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

Laser tattoo removal uses specialized technology that breaks down ink particles into tiny fragments. These fragments are then naturally processed and eliminated by your body’s immune system over time. The treatment targets specific ink colors with different wavelengths of light, shattering the ink without harming surrounding skin tissue.

Modern laser systems can effectively target various ink colors, though some colors respond better than others. Black and dark blue typically respond best, while light green, yellow and fluorescent inks can be more challenging.

The laser works like a targeted light pulse that hits only the ink, leaving your surrounding skin unharmed. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we utilize the latest laser technologies, including advanced picosecond lasers, which can deliver energy in ultra-short pulses for more effective ink breakdown with less discomfort.

Effectiveness of Laser Tattoo Removal

The effectiveness of laser tattoo removal depends on several factors:

Tattoo Age

Older tattoos often respond better to laser removal than newer ones. This happens because the body has already begun breaking down older ink particles naturally over time. Tattoos that are 10+ years old generally require fewer sessions than those only 1-2 years old.

Ink Colors

Darker colors like black and blue usually respond more effectively to laser treatment. Colors like red, orange and some greens require different wavelengths and sometimes more sessions. Advanced laser systems use multiple wavelengths to target different ink colors effectively. Q-switched lasers excel at removing black and blue pigments, while alexandrite lasers work well for green inks.

Tattoo Location

Tattoos closer to the heart tend to fade faster as they benefit from better circulation, which helps flush away the broken-down ink particles. Areas with less blood flow, like hands, feet and lower legs, may require more treatments. Tattoos on the torso and upper arms often show faster improvement compared to those on extremities.

Skin Tone

While modern technology has made laser tattoo removal suitable for most skin types, individuals with very dark skin may face a higher risk of pigmentation changes and may require special treatment protocols. The Fitzpatrick scale, which classifies skin types, helps determine the most appropriate laser settings to maximize results while minimizing side effects for your specific skin tone.

Professional vs. Amateur Tattoos

Professional tattoos often penetrate deeper into the skin with more consistent ink density, requiring more treatments. Amateur tattoos generally use less ink and inconsistent depth, making them easier to remove. Your professional tattoo may require up to twice as many sessions as an amateur one. The quality and type of ink used also impact removal success, with some professional-grade inks formulated to resist fading.

Results You Can Expect

Laser tattoo removal is effective, but it’s important to have realistic expectations:

  • Complete Removal: Many tattoos can be completely removed with sufficient treatment sessions.
  • Significant Fading: Some tattoos may fade significantly but not completely disappear.
  • Multiple Sessions: Most tattoos require 5-12 sessions for optimal results, spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
  • Gradual Process: The body needs time between sessions to flush away broken-down ink particles.

The degree of fading varies among individuals due to factors like immune system efficiency, tattoo characteristics and lifestyle habits. You may see 70-80% fading after just a few sessions, while others require more treatments for similar results. Your complete tattoo removal journey may take anywhere from 6 months to over a year, depending on your specific situation.

The Laser Tattoo Removal Process at Sanctuary Medical

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, our laser tattoo removal process includes:

1. Consultation

Our specialists evaluate your tattoo, considering its age, colors, location and your skin type to create a customized treatment plan. We take detailed photos to track progress and discuss realistic timelines based on your specific case. This initial assessment allows us to select the most appropriate laser technology for your unique tattoo composition.

2. Treatment Session

During the procedure, we use state-of-the-art laser technology to target the tattoo ink while protecting the surrounding skin. Most sessions last 15-30 minutes, depending on the tattoo size. Our advanced cooling systems minimize discomfort during treatment, and our specialists adjust laser settings throughout the procedure for optimal results. We offer several comfort management options, including topical anesthetics, cooling systems, and in some cases, local anesthetic injections for more sensitive areas or patients.

3. Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential for optimal results and reduced risk of complications. We provide comprehensive aftercare instructions, including keeping the area clean, applying recommended ointments and avoiding sun exposure. Diligent aftercare can prevent complications like blistering or scarring while promoting faster healing between sessions.

4. Follow-up Sessions

Your specialist will schedule follow-up sessions, typically 6-8 weeks apart, allowing your body time to process the ink between treatments. The 6-8 week interval between sessions is crucial because your body needs this time to flush away the broken-down ink particles through your lymphatic system. During each follow-up, we assess your progress, adjust treatment parameters as needed and address any concerns you might have about the process or results.

What Makes Our Laser Tattoo Removal Different

Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center offers advanced laser tattoo removal technology operated by highly trained specialists. As one of the largest laser facilities in South Florida, we have the equipment and expertise to address all types of tattoos effectively.

Our medical team, led by Dr. Jason Pozner, provides personalized treatment plans based on your tattoo characteristics and skin type. This approach helps achieve the best possible results while minimizing discomfort and downtime.

We use multiple laser platforms with varying wavelengths to target different ink colors effectively, unlike many facilities that rely on just one type of laser. This lets us treat even complex, multicolored tattoos with greater success.

Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before treatment, as tanned skin increases the risk of complications. Don’t apply creams or lotions to the area on the day of treatment. Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the tattooed area.

What is the recovery time after each session?

Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. The treated area may be sensitive for a few days, similar to a mild sunburn. Following our aftercare instructions helps ensure proper healing.

How Long Does Botox Last? A Complete Guide to Treatment Duration

Botox injections rank among the most popular cosmetic treatments for reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Understanding how long results last helps you plan your treatment schedule and maintain your desired appearance. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, over 7.4 million Botox treatments were performed in 2023, making it the leading minimally invasive cosmetic procedure.

The Timeline of Botox Results

Most patients see Botox results lasting 3-4 months. If this is your first treatment, you might notice shorter durations, while maintaining regular treatment schedules often leads to longer-lasting results.

Your provider’s experience plays a key role in treatment longevity. Precise injection techniques and proper dosing help achieve optimal results. Medical professionals at specialized centers consistently deliver better outcomes compared to inexperienced providers.

Treated Area

When you receive Botox, different areas of your face will maintain results for varying lengths of time:

  • Forehead lines: Your horizontal lines typically respond well, with results lasting 3-4 months
  • Crow’s feet: Results last 3-4 months, though this may vary based on your facial expressions
  • Frown lines: You’ll see results lasting 4-6 months, particularly effective for deep glabellar lines
  • Neck bands: Your results typically last 3-4 months with specialized techniques

Factors Affecting Botox Duration

Your treatment results depend on personal characteristics that influence how long Botox lasts:

Dosage: Your treatment amount affects longevity. Higher doses typically last longer, though your provider will balance this with achieving natural-looking results. The FDA has established specific guidelines for safe and effective dosing.

Metabolism: If you have a faster metabolism, you may break down Botox more quickly. Your exercise routine, stress levels and general health influence your metabolic rate.

Age: If you’re older or have deeper wrinkles, you might need more frequent treatments. Your skin’s elasticity and collagen levels affect treatment effectiveness.

Muscle Strength: Your facial muscle strength may require adjustments to treatment frequency. Regular Botox use can gradually weaken these muscles, leading to longer-lasting results.

Maximizing Your Botox Results

Beginning your Botox journey requires attention to detail for the best possible outcome. Proper preparation and aftercare significantly impact your results’ longevity and appearance.

Your success with Botox starts with choosing an experienced provider with proper credentials and training. After treatment, carefully follow all post-care instructions, including medication restrictions. Maintain consistent treatment schedules and practice good skin care habits, especially daily sunscreen use. Protect your investment by avoiding excessive sun exposure, staying hydrated, and following a healthy lifestyle with adequate sleep and stress management.

Signs It’s Time for Another Treatment

Understanding when to schedule your next appointment helps maintain consistent results. Your body gradually metabolizes Botox over time, and recognizing the early signs of wear will help you maintain your desired appearance.

Watch for these indicators that your Botox is wearing off:

  • You notice gradual return of muscle movement
  • Fine lines reappear during expressions
  • Your wrinkles become more visible
  • You feel tension returning in treated areas, especially around your forehead and eyes

How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Do I Need?

Many of us struggle with unwanted hair growth that is difficult to remove. If you relate to that idea, you’ve likely tried plucking, trimming, and shaving only to find that your hair returns despite your best efforts. Fortunately, there’s a more effective way to rid your body of those pesky hairs.

Laser hair removal is a common and highly effective cosmetic treatment that leaves your skin as smooth as it can be. Still, before you commit to this approach to hair removal, you need to know what’s involved in the process.

One of the most pressing concerns people have before trying laser hair removal is how many treatments they’ll need to undergo. This article will provide a clear answer to that question and more. But first, let’s cover the basics of how laser hair removal treatments work.

Basics of Laser Hair Removal

In many ways, a laser hair removal treatment is exactly what it sounds like. The technician performing the treatments will target your hair with a laser. The shafts of your hair then absorb the light from the laser. The light then converts to heat and damages the follicles of your hair. After the follicles are sufficiently damaged, they will no longer be able to create new hair.

That process is quick and convenient and leaves you with smooth, hairless skin where the treatments occur. Still, there’s much more to learn about how this process will unfold once you’ve scheduled your first appointment.

Typical Number of Treatments for Laser Hair Removal

In an ideal world, a single laser hair removal treatment would be enough to remove your unwanted hair. However, the reality is that you’ll likely need multiple treatments to achieve the results you desire.

In many cases, it will take at least six laser hair removal treatments before the process is complete. The reason why multiple treatments are necessary is that your hair has different growth stages, some of which leave the hair more vulnerable to the laser than others. Repeating treatments ensures that you target all your unwanted hairs at the ideal growing stage.

How Long Does Each Laser Hair Removal Treatment Take

While it’s slightly inconvenient to undergo multiple treatments for laser hair removal, the good news is that each treatment will be relatively brief. In most scenarios, the average laser hair removal treatment will last just a few minutes. The longest a treatment will take is about an hour, but that timeframe is only necessary for larger hair removal areas.

On What Body Parts Can You Use Laser Hair Removal?

Unwanted hair can appear in many different places on your body. As such, you might be wondering what body parts are eligible for laser hair removal treatments. Fortunately, laser hair removal works on most body parts, including but not limited to the following:

  • Chin
  • Cheeks
  • Bikini area
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Toes
  • Stomach
  • Buttocks

While there are many body parts on which you can use laser hair removal, there are some that you should avoid. For example, it’s unadvised to use laser hair removal treatments on your eyelids or any tattooed area of your body.

What If You Have More than One Area Where You Want Laser Hair Removal?

Do you have more than one area from which you want to remove hair? If so, you’ll be pleased to know that you can apply laser hair removal to multiple body parts during a single session. Treating multiple body parts will likely extend the time needed for each treatment, but doing so is normal and something you are more than welcome to consider.

Will Laser Hair Removal Treatments Be Permanent?

Most patients who choose laser hair removal are hopeful that the treatments will be permanent. However, the truth is that laser treatments are not 100% permanent. Instead, following multiple high-quality treatments, it’s more likely that about 80% of your hair will be permanently removed.

Since laser hair removal treatments are not entirely permanent, it’s often necessary to have follow-up appointments with your technician. For the best results, you should schedule these treatments biannually.

Why Laser Hair Removal is Preferable Over Other Options

If you’ve explored hair removal options, then you know that laser hair removal is far from the only approach available to you. Waxing, shaving, and plucking are just a few of the methods many people try. However, once you try laser hair removal, you’ll soon see why this option is more advantageous than the rest. Below are a few reasons why that’s the case:

  • Near-permanent results: Unlike the alternatives, the results from laser hair removal are nearly permanent. While it is necessary to have some touch-ups, they will be less frequent than repeated waxing or shaving.
  • Quick treatments: Most laser hair removal treatments take little to no time at all, making them a convenient option for most people.
  • Minimal side effects: Other than some mild redness that subsides in a matter of days, there are essentially no negative side effects to choosing laser hair removal.
  • No in-grown hairs: Hair removal methods like shaving put you at risk of ingrown hairs. With laser hair removal, you can eliminate this risk entirely.
  • Unmatched smoothness: Want your skin to feel as smooth as possible after your hair removal? If so, then laser hair removal is the way to go. While shaving and plucking can leave you with stubble, laser hair removal targets the roots, ensuring your skin is incredibly smooth.

The list above reveals some of the main reasons why laser hair removal is the ideal choice for most people. If you want to enjoy those benefits and more, all that’s left to do is find a laser hair removal location near you and book an appointment.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Dermal fillers have become a popular cosmetic treatment for those seeking to restore volume and reduce wrinkles. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetics Center, we offer a range of dermal filler options to help our clients achieve their desired look. But one question we often hear is, “How long do dermal fillers last?” Here’s an overview of the longevity of different filler types and factors that affect their duration.

Types of Dermal Fillers and Their Longevity

Different dermal fillers have varying lifespans due to their composition and how they interact with your body. Here’s a general guide to how long you can expect results from common filler types:

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

HA fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, are among the most popular options. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps maintain hydration and volume. These fillers typically last:

  • 6-12 months for thinner formulations used in lips and fine lines
  • 12-18 months for thicker formulations used in cheeks and deeper wrinkles

HA fillers are versatile and can be used in various areas of the face. They’re known for their natural-looking results and can be dissolved if needed.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers

CaHA fillers, like Radiesse, tend to last longer than HA fillers:

  • 12-18 months, with some patients reporting results lasting up to two years

CaHA fillers are typically applied to deeper lines and wrinkles, as well as for adding volume to cheeks and other facial contours.

Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA) Fillers

PLLA fillers, such as Sculptra, work by stimulating collagen production:

  • Results can last up to two years or more

What sets PLLA fillers apart is their ability to gradually improve skin quality over time. They’re often used for overall facial rejuvenation rather than targeting specific lines or wrinkles.

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Fillers

PMMA fillers, like Bellafill, are considered semipermanent:

  • Results can last five years or more

These fillers are typically used for very deep wrinkles, acne scars and significant volume loss. Due to their long-lasting nature, they require careful consideration and expert application.

Factors Affecting Filler Longevity

Various elements impact how long your dermal fillers last:

  1. Treatment Area: Fillers in areas with more movement (like lips) tend to break down faster than in less mobile areas (like cheeks).
  2. Metabolism: If you have a faster metabolism, you may break down fillers more quickly. Your body’s metabolic rate affects how rapidly it processes and eliminates the filler material.
  3. Lifestyle: Sun exposure, smoking and alcohol consumption can affect filler longevity. Protecting your skin from UV damage and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results.
  4. Skin Type: If you have oily skin, you might see faster filler breakdown compared to those with drier skin types. This is due to differences in how the skin metabolizes the filler material.
  5. Injection Technique: The skill and technique of your injector can impact how long your results last. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetics Center, our experienced practitioners use advanced techniques to optimize filler placement and longevity.
  6. Product Quality: Higher-quality fillers from reputable manufacturers tend to last longer. We only use FDA-approved fillers from trusted brands to ensure the best possible results for our clients.
  7. Follow-up Treatments: Regular maintenance can help prolong the effects of fillers. Your practitioner can recommend an ideal treatment schedule based on your individual needs and goals.

Maximizing the Lifespan of Your Dermal Fillers

While the longevity of dermal fillers depends on various factors, there are steps you can take to extend their effects. By following these tips, you can help ensure your results last as long as possible:

  1. Choose a qualified provider with experience in administering fillers. Look for board-certified practitioners with a track record of successful treatments.
  2. Follow post-treatment care instructions carefully. This may include avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat and certain skincare products for a short period after your treatment.
  3. Protect your skin from sun damage by using broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. UV exposure can break down fillers more quickly and contribute to overall skin aging.
  4. Maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise. Good overall health can contribute to better skin quality and longer-lasting filler results.
  5. Consider combining fillers with other treatments like Botox for comprehensive results. This approach can address multiple signs of aging for a more rejuvenated appearance.
  6. Schedule touch-up treatments as recommended by your provider. Regular maintenance can help you keep consistent results over time.

The Rise of Preventative Botox: How Younger Generations Are Using It

Preventative Botox is a cosmetic treatment that aims to reduce the appearance of wrinkles before they become permanent. It involves getting regular injections of botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin that prevents muscle contractions in the face. By doing so, it prevents the formation of fine lines and wrinkles that result from repetitive facial movements such as frowning or squinting.

In recent years, preventative Botox has been on the rise. For people ages 20-29, Botox treatments have increased by 28% since 2010, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. As with anything, it’s easier to prevent issues from starting rather than treating them once they’ve developed. The same is true for wrinkles on the face, and preventative Botox can be the solution to just that.

Reasons for the Rise of Preventative Botox

The rise of preventative Botox can be traced back to several factors that have contributed to its popularity, including:

The increasing acceptance of cosmetic procedures in society. With the introduction of dermal fillers and Botox injections as viable options for treating wrinkles and other signs of aging, cosmetic treatments have become more mainstream. As a result, the stigma attached to cosmetic treatments has diminished, and more people are now open to trying preventative Botox as a way to maintain their youthful appearance.

The growing demand for noninvasive procedures. As opposed to traditional plastic surgery, which involves invasive procedures and extended recovery times, noninvasive procedures like preventative Botox can be done during a lunch break or at the end of the day, with minimal downtime.

There is scientific evidence to support the benefits of preventative Botox. Studies have found that regular injections of botulinum toxin can actually increase collagen production in the skin, resulting in a more youthful and radiant complexion.

Benefits of Preventative Botox

If you’ve been considering preventative Botox treatments, you’re not alone! Botox can be a great option for those looking to stave off the signs of aging and maintain a youthful appearance. Some of the most notable benefits of getting preventative Botox injections include:

  • Prevents wrinkles from forming
  • Quick and convenient procedure
  • No downtime
  • Safe, low risk, and FDA-approved
  • Can improve skin quality over time
  • Boosts self-confidence and self-esteem

Whether you’re in your twenties or your fifties, it’s worth considering whether Botox injections might be right for you. Consult with a qualifiedBoca Raton & Fort Lauderdale Botox provider to learn more about the procedure and to determine if it’s a good fit for your individual needs and goals.

Preventative Botox Side Effects

While Botox is generally a safe, effective treatment, there are some side effects it’s important to be aware of. Some people may experience mild side effects such as bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. More serious side effects such as headaches, nausea, or even droopy eyelids can occur in rarer cases. These side effects are typically temporary and will usually resolve within a few days of the treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Preventative Botox?

Preventative Botox is most used by those over the age of 18 up through their early 30s. If you fall within this age range, you may be a good candidate for preventative Botox.

Preventative botox is most effective for dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated facial movements. These may include frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes. If you notice fine lines on your face when making these facial movements, preventative Botox could work wonders on preventing deep lines from forming.

That being said, preventative Botox is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s important to consider your individual skin type and concerns before deciding if this treatment is right for you.

How Quickly Will I See Results from Preventative Botox?

While some people may see results within a few days of treatment, it can take up to two weeks for the full effects to be visible. This is because botulinum toxin takes time to fully bind to the targeted muscles and begin blocking nerve signals.

In general, though, younger patients tend to see faster and more dramatic results from preventative Botox. This is because their skin is more elastic and able to bounce back quickly from the effects of botulinum toxin.

How Often Should I Get Preventative Botox?

Most medical professionals recommend getting preventative Botox injections every three to four months. The reason for this is that Botox is a temporary solution to reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Over time, the muscles treated with Botox will gradually regain their ability to contract, resulting in wrinkles returning. To prevent this from happening, keeping up with regular Botox treatments is important.

Sun Damage and Aging: Understanding the Connection Between UV Rays and Premature Aging

Sun damage is a term that refers to the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the skin. Sun damage is caused by prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays, which can cause premature aging, dark spots, and an increased risk of skin cancer.

Types of UV Rays

The sun emits two types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. UVA rays penetrate the skin’s inner layer, while UVB rays primarily affect the outer layer of the skin. Both types of UV rays can cause damage to the skin’s DNA and break down collagen, which can lead to premature aging and wrinkles.

How Do UV Rays Age Your Skin?

Breaks down collagen

Collagen is a protein that is responsible for the skin’s strength and elasticity. It is found in the dermis layer of your skin and is crucial in keeping your skin firm, smooth, and youthful. When exposed to UV radiation, collagen fibers are broken down, leading to the development of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.

Causes our skin to produce free radicals

Free radicals are unstable molecules that wreak havoc on our skin’s cells, causing damage to our DNA. This damage can lead to lines, wrinkles, and discoloration.

Causes the development of dark spots or age spots

These spots, also known as liver spots or lentigines, are caused by the uneven distribution of melanin, a pigment that gives color to your skin. Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause an increase in melanin production, which can lead to the development of these unsightly spots.

Leads to the development of actinic keratoses

These rough, scaly patches of skin are a precursor to skin cancer. Sun damage can even weaken the walls of your blood vessels, causing the visible veins and broken capillaries commonly seen in aging skin.

Leads to the development of skin cancer

And finally, UV rays can damage the DNA in skin cells, causing mutations that lead to cancer. It’s estimated that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, making it all the more important to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

Can You Reverse Sun Damage?

If you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun and are now experiencing the effects of sun damage on your skin, you may be wondering if there’s anything you can do to reverse it. While technically sun-damaged skin cannot be reversed due to UV rays changing the cells of your skin, there are things you can do to improve and minimize the damage.

Exfoliate regularly. Exfoliating your skin regularly can help remove dead skin cells and stimulate new cell growth. Use a gentle exfoliant like a scrub or chemical exfoliant once or twice a week, being careful not to overdo it, as that can cause further damage.

Use skin care products specifically for sun-damaged skin. To help repair your sun-damaged skin, you’ll want to use skincare products that contain ingredients that can help repair and rejuvenate your skin. Look for products that contain ingredients like vitamin C, which can help reduce inflammation and neutralize the free radicals that damage your skin. Retinoids are also effective in reversing sun damage, as they help increase cell turnover and collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Schedule professional treatments. If you have significant sun damage, professional treatments may be your best option. Chemical peels, laser therapy, and facials can help reduce the appearance of dark spots and other signs of sun damage. Microdermabrasion can also help remove dull, dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new ones.

Here’s how to treat signs of sun damage >>

How to Prevent Sun Damage

While treating sun damage is important, working to prevent sun damage will fare better in the long run. Steps you can take to prevent sun damage include:

Wear protective clothing

One of the simplest ways to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is to wear protective clothing. Covering up with long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses can help reduce the amount of UV radiation reaching your skin. Choose fabrics that are lightweight, breathable, and tightly woven to offer the most protection.

Use sunscreen

Applying mineral-based sunscreen is another effective way to protect your skin from sun damage. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and apply it generously to all exposed skin.

Avoid tanning beds

Tanning beds emit UV radiation, which can cause skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer. Therefore, it’s best to avoid using tanning beds altogether. Instead, consider using self-tanning products if you want a sun-kissed glow.

Be aware of medications

Certain medications, such as antibiotics and some acne treatments, can increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Be sure to read the labels and ask your doctor or pharmacist whether any medications you’re taking could cause photosensitivity.

How to Plan and Start a Wedding Beauty Regimen

In all the hustle and bustle before your upcoming wedding, don’t forget to carve out some time to pamper yourself so you can look and feel like a million bucks on your special day. But planning your pre-wedding beauty routine shouldn’t feel like yet another to-do you have to check off your list. To make your wedding beauty regimen a breeze, we’ve created a step-by-step timeline of some of the most popular pre-wedding cosmetic treatments and when to start scheduling each one.

Skin

Schedule an Appointment with Your Medical Specialist

When: 1 year out

One of the first steps you’ll want to take as soon as possible is setting up an appointment with your aesthetic specialist to go over any pesky skin problems you’d like to address before your big day, like acne, scarring dark spots, or wrinkles. Your provider can also help you start making any necessary adjustments to your daily skincare regimen and create a plan for any skin treatments you may want before your wedding.

Facials and Peels

When: 6 months out

Facials and peels can help you get (and keep) glowing, dewy skin. A good rule of thumb is to start getting regular facials around six months before your wedding. This not only helps you to maintain a gorgeous complexion up until your wedding day, but it also gives you wiggle room to make sure your skin doesn’t have an adverse reaction to any ingredients in the facial or peel — and if it does, you’ll still have plenty of time to try something else that might be a better fit for your skin.

Injectables

When: 4 months out

Start injectable treatments like dermal fillers and/or BOTOX® a few months in advance to make sure you get them just right. While most fillers can last a year or more, BOTOX typically lasts for 3 to 4 months, so you may need a touch-up treatment closer to your wedding day. Still, it’s a good idea to have a “test run” several months out, especially if you’ve never tried BOTOX before. If you’re new to fillers, ask your injectable provider about hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. HA fillers can be dissolved at any time, just in case you don’t love your results, while other types of fillers will take months to fade away on their own.

Even if you’re not new to injectable treatments, you’ll still want to schedule fillers or BOTOX far in advance because it can take several weeks for swelling and redness to diminish and your final results to develop.

Body

Laser Hair Removal

When: 1 year out

Hair grows in three distinct phases, and laser hair removal only treats hair that is currently in its active growing phase. For this reason, you’ll need around 6 to 8 treatment sessions, each spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, to achieve the smooth, effortless skin you want. So make sure you start laser hair removal treatments at least 12 months before your wedding day.

EMSCULPT® Body Contouring

When: 4 months out

EMSCULPT tones and tightens your abs, glutes, and thighs, enhancing all the right curves in time for your wedding day. You’ll see the best results after a series of around four EMSCULPT sessions, each spaced a few days apart. Then, it can take up to six weeks after your final session for your body contouring results to fully develop.

Spray Tan

When: 2 to 3 days out

It’s a good idea to get a trial spray tan before your final wedding dress fitting so you can see how your tan will look in your dress. Then, if you’ve decided you like it, get a final spray tan a few days before your wedding. Exfoliate your skin prior to your spray tan for an even glow. Avoid getting a spray tan the night before your wedding because it’ll take a couple days for the tan to develop.

Hair, Brows, and Lashes

Hair Coloring

When: 6 months out

If you plan to change your hair color for your wedding, start trialing your new color at least six months out, then schedule a touch-up appointment with your stylist 1 to 2 weeks before your wedding. Most hairstylists suggest staying within a shade or two of your natural hair color — whether lighter or darker — before your big day.

HydraFacial Keravive™ Scalp Treatment

When: 3 months out

Get fuller, smoother, healthier-looking hair in time for your special day with HydraFacial Keravive scalp treatments. Schedule your in-office appointment at least three months out so you can enjoy full results as you walk down the aisle. While allergic reactions with this non-invasive treatment are rare, this timeline should also give you plenty of wiggle room just in case.

Eyebrow shaping

When: 3 months out

Start eyebrow treatments a few months out so you can be sure you love your new brow shape and look before your big day, especially if you’re new to professional brow treatments. If you’re making big changes to your brows, you may want to start a little earlier. Then, schedule touch-up treatment a week or two before your wedding.

One pre-wedding brow mistake to avoid: Don’t get your brows waxed the night before your wedding, unless you want to risk looking red and puffy the next day!

Lash Extensions

When: 3 weeks out

Schedule your first lash extension appointment around three weeks out to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction to the glue. Then, go in for a touch-up just a few days before your wedding to ensure your lashes are in tip-top shape.

Teeth

Invisalign

When: 1 year out

If you’re looking to straighten your smile before walking down the aisle, see an Invisalign-trained dentist at least a year beforehand because it can take 11 to 12 months to see optimal results. However, if you’re pressed for time, you may see noticeable results after even just a few months of use, and you can take your Invisalign out for your big day and then continue your treatment after your wedding.

Teeth Whitening

When: 1 month out

If you’re planning on getting in-office teeth whitening treatments, you can usually schedule these around a month before the big day to see stellar results. However, you may want to start at-home whitening strips two months out to make sure you have time to maximize your results.

Bottom line

Getting a gorgeous, glowing look before your wedding can be a whole lot easier than you might think. The key is to start planning your beauty treatments now so you have plenty of time to enjoy your full results in time to walk down the aisle.
