How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Men and women of all ages struggle with imperfections on their skin (especially their facial skin). These skin blemishes can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance, especially in social gatherings. However, there’s good news: the presence and appearance of these concerns can be minimized or erased with cosmetic treatments. And while there are many options available to help correct any number of these issues, including creams, surgery, and cosmetic treatments, one of the most versatile and effective options is laser skin resurfacing.

Whether it be age-related issues (wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, or skin laxity), biological concerns (pronounced veins or freckles), or lifestyle related (sun damage), laser skin resurfacing can help you regain that youthful glow, which can help restore your sense of confidence and comfort with your skin.

Below, we’ll explore some of the different laser treatment options available to you from Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center to help you better understand the kinds of correction that lasers can offer!

What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

As the name suggests, laser skin resurfacing is any number of non-surgical treatments that use lasers (light energy) to correct skin blemishes. As with dermal fillers, there are several different laser options that each focus on specific types of correction to the skin. While your skin specialist will ultimately be the one to guide you toward the right laser treatment for you during your consultation, it can be helpful to know a little bit more about each of the laser options available.

Laser skin resurfacing treatments may be ablative or nonablative. With ablative treatments, a very thin layer of skin is removed without harming the body, while also stimulating collagen in the deeper layers of skin. Whereas non-ablative lasers simply heat underlying skin tissue to promote collagen production. Each type of laser treatment has its purpose and is dependent on the type and extent of correction needed for the patient.

While all laser treatments work in different ways, one of the constants between nearly all of them is that the laser energy helps to encourage the production of new collagen in the skin. This is important because collagen (along with elastin) is a natural protein that is responsible for the strength and overall health of the skin. As we get older, the amount of collagen in our skin decreases, which is one of the reasons why wrinkles and skin creases form.

MOXI™

MOXI™ is one of the most effective laser treatments available for all skin types and tones to help age- and sun-related issues on the skin. This treatment is one of the only lasers that treats melasma. For this treatment, laser energy is directed at portions of the skin. This energy penetrates to the dermis to destroy certain skin cells that contain high amounts of melanin. There are three levels of intensity with the MOXI™ laser. Level 1 that is mild, even without topical anesthesia, and is safe for all skin types. Levels 2 and 3 are deeper and more intense and require a numbing cream 30 minutes before treatments. These more intense levels can only be performed by a doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner and are designed to revitalize, transform, and renew your skin for a glowing appearance. Patients can choose the level of intensity desired with the help of our Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center top-tier professionals.

Halo™

The revolutionary Halo™ laser system is the first laser skin resurfacing treatment that uses both ablative and non-ablative means. So, layers of skin are removed while the production of collagen in the skin is increased. Halo™ improves sun-damaged skin, large pores, tone and texture, discoloration, and skin reflectivity, which can help give you the smooth, soft, and glowing skin you desire.

BBL™ and BBL Hero™

BBL™ (BroadBand Light) and the upgraded BBL Hero™ (High Energy Rapid Output™) are the strongest and most effective IPL (intense pulsed light) energy treatments available. What makes BBL™ and BBL Hero™ so popular is that they can help correct numerous skin concerns, including pigmentation issues, sun damage, age spots, and acne scarring. Additionally, these laser treatments can be performed on your whole body, rather than just the face.

NanoLaserPeel™

This ablative treatment uses laser light energy to remove the topmost layers of skin. As our skin ages, dead cells remain on our skin as well as dirt and other contaminants to the skin. By removing the top layer of skin, you are able to remove all the old and worn-out skin to allow new and healthy skin to grow in its place. The NanoLaserPeel™ is effective in reducing the appearance of skin blemishes while tightening the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

Sofwave™

Sofwave™ does not use IPL light energy, as many of the other treatments in this blog. Instead, Sofwave™ uses Intense Ultrasound Beam Technology to increase collagen in the skin. The increased collagen will help to rejuvenate your skin to deliver dramatic anti-aging results. What makes Sofwave™ even better is that it can be used anywhere on the body and is a more effective and painless version of Ultherapy.

Genius™ RF Microneedling

Many patients find themselves nervous about the microneedling process. And while it may seem scary and uncomfortable (dozens of tiny needles making “micro-injuries” in the skin), the truth is that most patients report little to no discomfort. What’s even more is that the results that can be achieved from microneedling are transformative both on the face and the body. With the Genius RF microneedling treatment, however, we take the stunning results that microneedling can achieve and push them even further. With this treatment, laser energy is directed through the micro-injuries to improve both collagen and elastin. Genius™ RF microneedling helps to specifically tighten the skin (on the face and the body), though it can also lessen the appearance of acne scars.

Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for a reason. Men and women of all ages can correct issues present on the skin while also preventing skin concerns. Some lasers can even be combined to provide an even more noticeable and natural transformation. Whether it is to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, tone and texture, and other aging signs or to reduce pore size and combat skin discoloration, at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we can examine your skin to determine the best laser skin resurfacing treatments that will work for you and your goals.

One of the best parts about laser skin resurfacing is that you can achieve stunning results that allow you to feel comfortable and confident, and there is little to no downtime associated with it. Depending on the type of laser treatment, some patients have reported feeling some discomfort during the days after their treatment. Additionally, you should expect to have some redness on your treated skin.

If you are frustrated with the aged appearance of your skin, or you have other skin issues that you would like to resolve, then don’t put off correcting them any longer. Schedule your consultation with our skin resurfacing specialists where we will go over the costs of the procedure as well as decide which laser treatment is best for you at this time to achieve the results you desire.
