Dysport® vs BOTOX® Cosmetic

One of the most frustrating effects of age and lifestyle is the presence of wrinkles and fine lines in the face. These imperfections in the skin can appear anywhere on the face, from the cheeks to around the mouth and nose, to the forehead and the area around the eyes. Some of these wrinkles are so prominent that they have even been given names, like crow’s feet, frown lines, smile lines, eleven lines, and smoker lines. Many men and women feel embarrassed and self-conscious about these wrinkles and fine lines on their face. Some people try to cover these facial imperfections with clothing, glasses, and makeup, while others refrain from attending different social gatherings where someone may see their blemishes. However, this is no way to live your life. Instead of trying to hide your wrinkles away, why not combat them?

Neuromodulators are cosmetic treatments that are both safe and effective for reducing the presence of wrinkles and fine lines on the face, and the two most popular and effective neuromodulators on the market are Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic. However, despite what some people think, these two treatments are not interchangeable. While they both have the same active ingredient and work on facial issues in the same manner, they are each unique injectable treatments that help correct different issues on the face. Below, you will find some information about each of these treatments so that you can better decide which might be best for you.

What Are Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are both FDA-approved injectable treatments that use neurotoxins to alleviate wrinkling in the skin. The active ingredient in both treatments is botulinum toxin type A. For either of these treatments, your injectable provider will inject the Dysport® or BOTOX® Cosmetic solution into the troublesome facial muscles. It is important to understand that Dysport® and BOTOX® Cometic work to correct dynamic wrinkles (these are wrinkles that are caused by repetitive muscle contractions and not by age). Once injected, the botulinum toxin A solution blocks signals from the nerves to the brain. When this happens, the muscle becomes less responsive, allowing for the muscles to relax. This, in turn, decreases any chance of wrinkling in the skin.

Dysport®

Dysport® is injected into areas of the face to correct the signs of wrinkling. Some of the most common areas of the face for these injections are wrinkles between and above the eyebrows, formally known as glabellar lines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Like Dysport®, BOTOX® Cosmetic is also an injectable treatment that is injected into the muscles to essentially paralyze the muscle to rid the face of dynamic wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic helps to correct wrinkles and fine lines that appear around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the brows, and on the forehead. BOTOX® Cosmetic can also treat nasolabial folds with a little bit of filler to add volume to the area.

So What Really Is the Difference Between Dysport® & BOTOX® Cosmetic?

As you’ve seen, both Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are extremely similar in nature and purpose. However, that doesn’t mean that they are the same. Instead, each injectable treatment is used for different levels of correction. While BOTOX® Cosmetic is best if you have mild to moderate wrinkles, Dysport® is the better option to treat moderate to severe wrinkles.

Additionally, these injectable treatments are different from each other in both the areas of correction (with Dysport® geared more for the areas around the eyes and BOTOX® Cosmetic treating areas around the mouth and nose and on the forehead) and the timeframe in which they each work. Your Dysport® results will become evident after only two to three days, whereas the results gained from BOTOX® Cosmetic can take up to one week to become visible.

Another difference between the two is that BOTOX® (not BOTOX® Cosmetic) can be used for other non-cosmetic uses, such as to reduce migraines, neck spasms, lazy eye, the amount of excessive sweating, and bladder incontinence.

How Long Does Dysport® last vs BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Both Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic generally last three to four months before requiring maintenance injections. However, as with many cosmetic treatments, your neurotoxin injectable results can be prolonged with a healthy lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a good skincare routine. Proper sun protection, like hats and sunglasses, will also prolong your injectable treatment results, as they keep you from squinting and creating additional wrinkles. Longevity is very dependent on your specific metabolism as well as your lifestyle.

What Side Effects Should I Expect From Either Dysport® or BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Both of these injectable treatments carry the same side effects, including swelling, bruising at the injection site, slight discomfort, headaches, and skin numbness. Though extremely rare, both Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic carry the risk of serious health complications, like botulinum toxicity and respiratory issues. If you experience any of these complications, contact Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center immediately.

Can I Combine These Treatments Together or With Other Treatments?

One of the best parts of Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic is that they can easily be combined together and with other treatments. In fact, you can have Dysport® injections at the same time as you have BOTOX® Cosmetic injectable or you can choose to safely alternate these injectables at different times.

If you are looking for more complete and dramatic rejuvenation to your facial aesthetic, you can combine either your Dysport® or BOTOX® Cosmetic (or both!) injections with other non-injectable cosmetic treatments, such as dermal fillers (which help correct areas of lost volume in the cheeks and under the eyes). The combination of dermal fillers and Dysport® and/or BOTOX® Cosmetic can create the affect of a liquid facelift, which is an alternative option for men and women looking for facial enhancements without having surgery.

HydraFacial® & Pregnancy

Pregnancy is easily one of the most beautiful events that a woman can experience, but sometimes pregnancy can really suck the life out of you and your skin. Pregnancy causes women to experience a multitude of bodily changes, from the growing size of your belly to strange food cravings. However, one of the most frustrating changes that many women experience during their pregnancy is a change in their skin.

Pigmentation issues, bumps on the skin, acne, pregnancy mask, the list of skin blemishes goes on and on from your hormones being altered by the little human life inside your body. However, there’s good news: cosmetic procedures can help correct many of these skin issues. But with so many products on the market that you can and cannot use while pregnant (and breastfeeding), it can sometimes be daunting. Well, HydraFacial® is the answer for you! HydraFacial® is a fantastic service for pregnant women who want to clear their skin from dirt, debris, and congestion, and the best part is that you can rest assured that your precious baby will not be affected. After your HydraFacial® treatment, you will be able to smile as you look at your face in the mirror and see fresh, radiant, hydrated skin. Let us ease your mind a bit with some information about facials during pregnancy at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center.

What Is a HydraFacial®?

HydraFacial® is one of the most popular and trusted facial treatments for both men and women. And one of the best things about this service is that it is customizable to you and your skin. So whether you are pregnant and have different skin concerns than other women, you are experiencing acne, or you just want a relaxing facial rejuvenation, HydraFacial® can be the perfect solution for your aesthetic desires.

The HydraFacial® treatment combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, and hydration into a quick and easy three-step process to give you complete rejuvenation.

  • Step 1: The HydraFacial® wand is used to cleanse and exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, oils, and other impurities from the surface of the skin.
  • Step 2: Vortex Technology™ uses a powerful suction process to open the pores and extract debris from them without irritating the skin.
  • Step 3: A specially tailored formula of serums is infused to moisturize and plump the skin.

Can I Get a HydraFacial® While Pregnant?

Yes! HydraFacial® is one of the safest facial treatments that you can get while pregnant. Because this treatment is customizable to your skin concerns, condition, and your aesthetic desires, we can make sure that you are getting the results you want without any of the trouble that other treatments cause for pregnant women.

As with any plastic surgery or cosmetic treatment, your consultation is one of the most important aspects of your HydraFacial® treatment. At your consultation at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, you will have a chance to explain your facial concerns and goals, while our professionals examine your skin condition and develop a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to you. This will allow the skin technician to modify any ingredients that may not be as safe for women who are pregnant. Additionally, during your consultation, you will be provided with any pre- and post-treatment instructions to help you prepare for your HydraFacial® treatment and keep your results lasting as long as possible. Be sure to speak to your medical provider before any cosmetic treatments, just in case.

How Often Should I Get a HydraFacial®?

While your HydraFacial® results are not permanent, with maintenance treatments, you can keep your facial skin looking rejuvenated and refreshed as long as you desire.

HydraFacial® treatments can be performed every four weeks. However, the amount of time between your treatments depends on the specific condition of your skin, including the extent of correction needed. At your consultation, your facial expert will be able to recommend a course of action and maintenance plan for your skin.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and a good skin care routine will only help prolong your stunning results. And regular maintenance and upkeep of your skin’s health will allow you to look more radiant so that you can feel confident and unstoppable!

HydraFacial® Boosters Offered at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer a neck booster to add to your HydraFacial® services. HydraFacial® Epicutis™ is the first neck and décolleté booster for neckline revitalization that provides smoother, firmer skin and a more even texture. This technique may be better suited for after pregnancy, but your professional facial specialist will let you know when the best time to use this booster will be. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer a conservative approach when it comes to HydraFacial® and pregnancy. We are aware that there are some active ingredients that may not be right for you at this time, so we may be able to substitute a light peel or another service after your HydraFacial® treatment with us.

The Benefits of HydraFacial®

Undergoing this replenishing facial treatment, regardless of whether you are pregnant, provides so many benefits. It is one that is simple yet effective and doesn’t require any downtime. Noticeable results and benefits include:

  • Smoother, softer skin
  • A more youthful, radiant appearance
  • A reduction in visible signs of aging
  • Improved skin clarity

Skin Protection While Pregnant

It is imperative that you protect your skin from the sun, and it is even more important that you do so after you’ve received your HydraFacial® treatment. New, fresh skin can be susceptible to various different kinds of elements and environmental factors from everyday life. This means that you need to make sure that you’re treating your skin right after your HydraFacial® treatment.

Hydrating allows your skin to stay nourished while flushing the body of unwanted toxins, while moisturizing helps keep your skin looking and feeling supple and smooth, and sunscreen actively protects your skin from any UV rays and pigmentation issues that are brought on by the sun.

Always Ask Your Doctor!

While we are experts in our field at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we truly encourage you to discuss any of your cosmetic services, such as HydraFacial®, with your OB/GYN before scheduling your appointment with us. Getting the “OK” from your physician can definitely help to give you peace of mind, knowing that you are protecting that little miracle growing inside of you while you enjoy a little pampering for yourself!

Body Contouring With CoolSculpting® Elite

Body image and body positivity are such huge topics of discussion nowadays, but things can sometimes get out of hand and a bit confusing. Our bodies change as we age, and maintaining our body is not as easy as it once was. Your clothes may fit differently or it may take a little bit longer to lose some pounds or inches than you would like. Can you love your body but still want to get a little bit of work done to tweak a few things here and there? Yes, you can. With CoolSculpting® Elite, you can use it as a method to reduce those hard-to-reach areas of fat on your body while still staying true to your natural body contour.

CoolSculpting® History

CoolSculpting® has one of those neat origin stories that seems almost too good to be true. Two Massachusetts General Hospital physicians, Dr. Dieter Manstein and Dr. R. Rox Anderson, noticed that children who ate popsicles were beginning to develop dimples in their cheeks. They put their brains together to see if this process, colloquially known as popsicle panniculitis, could work on other parts of the body for fat loss and body contouring treatments. And from this, CoolSculpting® was born!

How Does CoolSculpting® Elite Work?

CoolSculpting® Elite is an FDA-approved fat reduction treatment that is a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to reduce fat in the body. This treatment is quick, as it typically only takes about one hour to complete. CoolSculpting® Elite works by using a process called cryolipolysis, where the fat cells are frozen and eliminated. The device pulls the predetermined treatment area between the cooling panels and cools the fat cells to just above freezing, which causes crystals to form on the fat cells without actually freezing or damaging any surrounding skin, nerves, or vessels. The fat cells are destroyed immediately, and they are naturally eliminated from your body over the next few months.

Candidates for CoolSculpting® Elite

CoolSculpting® Elite can target fat in the following areas:

  • Hips and flanks
  • Abdomen
  • Back and bra line
  • Banana roll
  • Knees
  • Thighs
  • Arms
  • Submental area (double chin)

It is recommended that you schedule a consultation with Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center so that we can examine your body and evaluate whether or not you are a true candidate for this treatment. CoolSculpting® Elite is not a weight-loss procedure, so candidates must have maintained a stable weight for several months before undergoing this body sculpting treatment.

Does CoolSculpting® Elite Hurt?

The CoolSculpting® Elite treatment does not hurt, so patients should not feel any pain. However, there may be feelings of discomfort due to the cold panels and the pulling of the skin between the panels during treatment. Patients may feel numb in the treatment area for a few days, but there should not be any other side effects to the treatment. Regular activities may be resumed right away.

When Will I See My Results?

Results of your CoolSculpting® Elite treatment will start to become noticeable after about two to four months. The body needs time to naturally eliminate those dead fat cells, so while it’s actively working from day one, you won’t be able to see a difference until a few months later. Depending on the treatment area, your clothes will start fitting better, your abdomen will begin to flatten, and you will feel more confident in your own skin.

Maintaining My CoolSculpting® Elite Results

These six simple hacks can help you maintain your results and stay on target to crush your body goals.

1. Make Movement Part of Your Day

All of your exercise doesn’t have to be in a gym. There are lots of ways you can incorporate movement into your daily routine, helping you maintain or meet your goals faster and more effortlessly. A few ways to move more throughout the day could include:

  • Going for a walk on your lunch break instead of parking it at a coffee shop
  • Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator
  • Doing jumping jacks during commercials in between your favorite shows

2. Work Workouts into Your Calendar

Treat your workout like you would a work meeting or client phone call: stick in on your calendar and protect that time! But make sure it’s realistic. For example, don’t put “run” on your calendar at 5:30am if you don’t normally get up until 6:00. Find a time that will realistically work for you so your workouts don’t immediately feel like a chore. Besides, getting enough sleep is important for fitness and overall health, too!

3. Keep Track of Progression to Avoid Plateaus

Your workouts don’t have to be two hours long to get results. Rather than focusing on how much time you’re spending at the gym or on the treadmill, keep a log of the progress you are making during that time, however long it may be. Can you run 30 seconds longer each day? Can you lift five pounds more this week than last week? Jot down these small wins so you can easily measure your results in something more than just minutes in the gym.

4. Make “Meal Prep Mondays” a Thing…

Or Saturday or Sunday—whatever works for you! The point is that planning out your meals for the week and having everything you need to make them will help you avoid ravenously raiding the fridge as soon as you get home. Knowing you have a pre-planned dinner at home will also help you to avoid spontaneously stopping for fast food on the way home.

Another tip is to whip up a crock pot meal or two during the week so you have leftovers for lunch or dinner the following day.

5. …But Don’t Wait Until Monday to Start Working Out

The truth is, there’s nothing magical about Mondays or the start of the new year, for that matter, that will help you reach your body goals. It doesn’t need to be a Monday or January 1st to start forming a new habit. In fact, the longer you put off starting a new diet or workout, the harder it will be to get the momentum needed to maintain those healthy habits.

If you binge-ate one too many leftover Christmas cookies on the first of the year, don’t sweat it. Take a brisk walk later that day, or kick off the next morning with a workout. There’s no time like the present to start eating healthier and getting more exercise!

6. Set Short- and Long-Term Goals

Having smaller short-term goals is a great way to break up longer-term goals into manageable chunks that don’t seem so overwhelming. But it’s also good to have an idea of your long-term goals so you know what you’re ultimately striving for. Bigger long-term goals could be reaching an ideal target weight, lowering your cholesterol or blood sugar, or prepping for a body-toning solution like EMSCULPT NEO®. Whatever it is, write it down, and then figure out what series of short-term goals will help you get there.

So, whether you are comfortable with your body and need help in one area or nine, CoolSculpting® Elite can help get you to the aesthetic you desire. Love your body the way you want it to be and let your confidence shine. Schedule a consultation to discuss your goals with Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center.

FAQs About CoolSculpting® Elite

One of the most popular non-surgical body contouring treatments available, CoolSculpting® Elite offers a solution to stubborn fat that doesn’t seem to respond to diet and exercise. However, there are a few things you should know about this procedure to help you decide if it could be right for you.

If you’re thinking about getting CoolSculpting® Elite to fine tune your fitness results, take a look at these frequently asked questions answered by CoolSculpting® Elite specialist Ashley Blaser. Ashley has been expertly trained at CoolSculpting® University (CSU), a training facility located at the Zeltiq headquarters in California, where she received advanced training and hours of hands-on practice and lectures to perfect the art of CoolSculpting® Elite.

1.  How do I know if CoolSculpting is right for me?

CoolSculpting® Elite can be a beneficial treatment for anyone frustrated with stubborn fat along the arms, legs, submental area (double chin), or trunk. Potential patients should be in relatively good health, understand the CoolSculpting process, and hold reasonable expectations for the results. CoolSculpting is safe for men and women of any skin type or ethnicity. The procedure is not an alternative to weight loss, however. The ideal candidate will have isolated areas of bulging fat that are resistant to exercise and diet.

2. Which areas of the body does CoolSculpting® Elite work for?

CoolSculpting® Elite can be used to treat many different areas including the abdomen, flanks, upper back, lower back, arms, submental area, male breasts, and inner and outer thighs. There are seven different sizes of applicators that are available, allowing each CoolSculpting® Elite treatment to precisely address the individual target area.

3. How many CoolSculpting® Elite treatments will I need?

Typically, two treatments are needed, though the exact number of treatments you may need will depend on your specific goals and circumstances. CoolSculpting® Elite reduces the amount of fat in the area treated by 20 to 25 percent.

4. What does CoolSculpting® Elite feel like? Does it hurt?

CoolSculpting® Elite is a pretty easy and painless treatment. During the procedure, you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, or cramping at the treatment site. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb.

5. What can I do to maximize and prolong my CoolSculpting® Elite results?

Nothing is required, but a combination of cardio, strength training, and eating healthy is usually best for maximizing your CoolSculpting® Elite results.

1. Eat a Healthy Diet

CoolSculpting® Elite can be an excellent option to help you shed stubborn fat in nearly any area of your body, but it’s not a substitute for good old-fashioned healthy eating and exercise. To maximize and maintain amazing results after getting CoolSculpting® Elite, keep up with healthy eating habits, as you can still gain weight in areas that have previously been treated with CoolSculpting® Elite.

Some general healthy eating tips to keep in mind include:

  • Avoiding processed foods as much as possible
  • Limiting sugary drinks and sweets
  • Eating a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Drinking plenty of water

2. Exercise

As mentioned above, it is possible to gain weight after CoolSculpting® Elite, so sticking to a healthy eating and exercise routine is the best way to maintain your new body shape after your treatment.

In fact, many people find that CoolSculpting® Elite is a great motivator to stay on track with a healthy diet and exercise. Once you start to see the beginnings of your results in as little as two weeks after treatment, you might find that you’re extra motivated to treat your body well so you can get the most out of those results and keep them long-term.

3. Consider Additional Treatments

In many cases, you will see optimal results after a single CoolSculpting® Elite session. However, there may be some instances where your provider may recommend an additional treatment to see the best results. Discuss your options and progress with your provider to see if an additional treatment might be necessary to achieve your goals.

Keep in mind, too, that it will take some time for your full CoolSculpting® Elite results to develop. Be patient with your body as your results continue to improve over the coming weeks.

4. Choose an Experienced Provider

Finally, your CoolSculpting® Elite results will be largely dependent on the technique used and the skill and expertise of your provider. Do your homework prior to signing up for a treatment to make sure you are working with a trained and experienced professional to ensure the best possible results. A skilled provider should also give you specific before and after instructions to help you maximize your body-contouring results even further.

6. What is the difference between CoolSculpting® and CoolSculpting® Elite?

Many people often wonder what makes CoolSculpting® Elite different from CoolSculpting® Legacy, the classic CoolSculpting® option, and if this new device could be right for them.

Here are four big benefits of this upgraded body-sculpting technology.

1. Dual Applicators Mean Double the Treatment

DualSculpting allows you to get two CoolSculpting® Elite treatments at the same time, essentially cutting your total treatment time in half. But previously, DualSculpting was only available from providers who had more than one available CoolSculpting® device, so this option was not always readily available, depending on your location.

Now, every CoolSculpting® Elite device comes with two applicators, so you can maximize every appointment with the help of built-in DualSculpting. That means less time you’ll need to spend at your appointment and more time you can spend doing the things you love.

2. “C”-Shaped Applicator Covers More Skin

Another major difference between CoolSculpting® Elite and CoolSculpting® Legacy is that CoolSculpting® Elite now uses a “C”-shaped applicator, rather than the “U” shape of the Legacy device. This new shape allows for an astounding 18 percent more surface area coverage, so each treatment can be even faster and more efficient than before.

3. Precisely Target Nine Treatment Areas

CoolSculpting® Elite now comes with seven applicator options in a range of shapes and sizes that allow your provider to more precisely treat nine areas of your body, including your chin and jawline, thighs, upper arms, hips, waist, back, bra rolls, and banana rolls (under the buttocks).

And because of the built-in DualSculpting we mentioned earlier, you can treat two of these areas at the same time.

4. Cutting-Edge Technology for Even Better Results

So many people’s most-loved cosmetic treatment just got a facelift of its own! Other changes to the CoolSculpting® device include a sleeker, more compact Elite machine and more advanced freezing technology for the most efficient non-surgical body contouring results possible.

We hope this cleared up some questions about CoolSculpting® Elite and you are now ready to book your appointment! If not though, and you still have questions, please feel free to contact us by calling our office at 561-234-4026, or you may fill out our online contact form.

Injectables & Body-Contouring Options for the Spring

Spring has almost sprung! The birds will be chirping louder, the sun will be shining more and more, and the plants will be coming back to life. Now it is time that you experience the same spring awakening. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer many different injectable and body-contouring treatment options to help freshen up your look. Whether you want to temporarily remove the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face, eliminate cellulite in the buttocks, or tighten and sculpt your body contour, we are here to take you to the next level.

Wrinkle Reducers

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer three different injectables to help with the appearance of wrinkles in the face: BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and XEOMIN®. These injectables are different brands in the same class of injectable wrinkle treatments, known as neuromodulators, and are made from a substance known as botulinum toxin that temporarily relaxes the muscles in the treatment areas to lessen frown lines that come from age and repetitive motion. All three wrinkle reducers focus on the facial region, including the crow’s feet area of the eyes, frown and furrowed brow lines on the forehead, prominent neck bands or cords, fine lines on the upper lips, marionette lines at the corners of the mouth, and rippling at the chin.

Dr. Azza Halim of Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center told Byrdie that the goal of BOTOX® Cosmetic and other neuromodulators is to “relax facial muscles without over-freezing,” thus creating a smooth, natural look and avoiding a “frozen” face. Generally speaking, neuromodulators last around three to six months before another treatment will be needed to maintain results. However, there is some evidence that starting BOTOX® Cosmetic early may be able to prevent wrinkles from forming in the future.

Dermal Fillers for Increased Volume

Dermal fillers plump up and fill in the lines on the mid- and lower-face areas, such as around your nose and mouth, by adding volume that has been lost over time due to the natural aging process. Fillers can also be used to restore lost volume in your cheeks, lips, and hands, creating a fuller, more youthful appearance. Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center in Boca Raton & Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers BELOTERO BALANCE®, The JUVÉDERM Collection of Fillers, Restylane®, RADIESSE®, The RHA® Collection, and Sculptra® Aesthetic to enhance your aesthetic.

Though these are all type of injectable fillers, all of these brands do not necessarily contain the same active ingredients or work in the same way. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like JUVÉDERM® and BELOTERO BALANCE® work by plumping your skin from the inside out using hyaluronic acid, which has the ability to bind to and retain up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. This plumping effect temporarily “fills in” lines and wrinkles and can also add volume to areas like your cheeks or lips. On the other hand, BELOTERO BALANCE® has a tendency to retain less water than other HA fillers, making it an excellent treatment option for the eye area, where you do not want puffiness and swelling, as Dr. Halim explains in an interview with Shape.

One of the benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they can be dissolved using a special enzyme at any time. This is not possible with other types of fillers, which need to gradually wear away over time to restore your normal appearance. HA fillers can last anywhere from six to 18 months, depending on the brand and treatment location.

Fat and Cellulite Removers

If you are suffering from excess fat or cellulite in unwanted regions of the body, then QWO® or KYBELLA® may be the injectable treatments for you to consider. QWO® is the only FDA-approved medicine used to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of women. KYBELLA® reduces submental fat without surgery by safely injecting deoxycholic acid into the chin to destroy the underlying fat cells. This process then naturally eliminates the dead fat cells over time, leaving you with a more contoured and defined jawline.

Contrary to popular belief, the spring can be a great time to squeeze in a body-sculpting treatment (or two!). Non-surgical body-contouring treatments like CoolSculpting®, EMSCULPT®, and VelaShape® don’t require extensive downtime or recovery, and you can start seeing results in as little as two weeks. So not only can you start enjoying a sleeker physique this spring and summer, but you’ll also be ready for the perfect pumpkin patch or holiday photos come fall and winter.

Be confident this spring and wear those short shorts or flowy dresses, take unlimited close-up selfies, and let your fresh, rejuvenated appearance shine through! Stop and smell the flowers and take advantage of the beautiful life that surrounds you!

What Are Dermal Fillers & How Do They Work?

Age brings wisdom, so they say. However, it also brings aesthetic issues to the skin. This is due in large part to the fact that collagen and elastin begin to dwindle over time as men and women age, and this is problematic, since collagen and elastin are responsible for the health, strength, elasticity, and overall youthfulness to the skin. When collagen and elastin is lost, people’s appearances begin to change.

With collagen and elastin loss due to age, men and women often look older than they truly are (and definitely older than they feel). Some of these changes are unnoticeable, while others are extremely clear, which can cause men and women to feel embarrassed and self-conscious about their changing appearances. The skin in their cheeks and under their eyes may begin to look hollow, or their skin begins to loosen and sag, or their lips begin to thin out, or their hands begin looking old and worn down. However, dermal fillers can help correct many of these aesthetic issues and rejuvenate the skin and overall appearances of men and women who are struggling with the effects of aging.

Dermal fillers are designed to fill in and plump these areas of concern. Whether due to age or just a desire to enhance your features, these injectable treatments can provide you with a natural, updated, and more youthful aesthetic that will have you smiling with confidence and comfort!

What Are Dermal Fillers?

One of the most common active ingredients in many dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found in your body. It attracts and retains moisture in the skin cells, making that skin look and feel more hydrated and plump. So, when the HA is injected into the skin, the hollow and thin areas are literally filled in by natural moisture.

Dermal fillers come in both synthetic and natural forms. You also have the option of an absorbable or non-absorbable option. One of the best aspects of having different options is that your results can be reversed and revised if you are unhappy with the way you look.

You may ask yourself often, “How do dermal fillers work?” Well, the truth is that each variation of filler improves the appearance of aging, wrinkling, and sagging skin by plumping up the skin to fil in creases and lines, increasing the size and fullness of the lips and cheeks, and enhancing facial contours in both men and women.

This photo is of a woman who wanted filler injected under her eyes to fill in the hollowed, dark appearance.

Can You Use Dermal Fillers for Wrinkles?

Yes! Dermal fillers are the perfect solution for wrinkles. No matter what type of filler you and your specialist decide on, you will see noticeable improvement in the wrinkles in your skin. The filler will plump your skin and, quite literally, fill in the lines and wrinkles on your face.

What Are the Most Common Areas Treated By Dermal Fillers?

Though dermal fillers are designed for a plethora of locations, the most common areas treated by dermal fillers are:

  • The nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines)
  • The marionette lines (area on the sides of the chin)
  • The lips (adding volume and shape)

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer a handful of different dermal fillers that are each specially designed to enhance specific areas of your body and face so that you can achieve a  more youthful and refreshed look. We offer:

  • BELOTERO BALANCE® is a prescription injectable treatment that reduces the appearance of the lines between the nose and mouth, known as the nasolabial folds, by filling in and smoothing out the skin. This filler adapts and evens out on its own, creating a more natural look.

  • The JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers is a highly popular collection of hyaluronic acid fillers that fill and plump the facial skin, lips, and hands. There are many formulations to choose from, so scheduling a consultation with our professionals will help you determine which option is best for you.

  • Restylane® fillers are great for moderate to severe lines and wrinkles on the face and these fillers can also be used to enhance the lips.

  • RADIESSE® stimulates natural collagen production and fills in creases in the skin as new collagen is created over time.

The RHA® Collection is the first hyaluronic acid filler to be FDA approved to treat dynamic wrinkles. This filler moves with the facial movements, allowing the facial aesthetic to still look natural.

Back Fat & CoolSculpting® Elite

Regular exercise and a healthy diet is something that every man and woman should strive to achieve and make a habit in their life. However, for some men and women, even with these great and healthy habits, excessive, stubborn fat is bound to hang around. And one of the most common (and frustrating) areas of the body for this fat is in the back.

The truth is that fat, whether it be along the bra line or on the lower area of the back (like the dreaded “muffin top” or “spare tire” area) can be so hard to remove. However, the good news is that there is a way to get rid of this subcutaneous fat. CoolSculpting® Elite is a revolutionary non-invasive treatment that can remove that frustrating back fat (and other areas of the body with stubborn fat) with ease. The CoolSculpting® Elite handpiece is strategically placed by the professionals at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center to remove excess, unwanted fat in places that are next to impossible to eliminate.

What Exactly Is CoolSculpting® Elite?

CoolSculpting® Elite is a body-contouring method that removes unwanted fat on various areas of the body with the use of cryolipolysis. During this transformative body contouring process, the fat cells are frozen and then eliminated naturally over time. And what makes CoolSculpting® Elite even more successful is that the fat-freezing device has seven different applicators to choose from, coming in different shapes and sizes to complement your body’s natural curves.

This allows for ultimate patient comfort and effective fat reduction. For this treatment, the CoolSculpting® Elite device pulls the skin between the cooling panels to cool the fat cells to a tempeerature just above freezing. One of the best parts of this treatment is that the surrounding skin, nerves, and vessels are unharmed during the process, while crystals form on the fat cells. Once the fat cells are dead, they are naturally consumed by the body over the course of a few months.

CoolSculpting® Elite is FDA cleared to treat visible fat bulges in nine areas of the body, including the thigh, abdomen, flank, bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks (banana roll), upper arm, and the submental (under the chin) and submandibular (under the jawline) areas.

How Does CoolSculpting® Elite Work for My Back Fat?

As men and women age, it often becomes harder and harder to lose weight in certain areas of the body. This is due in large part to the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin (which are responsible for the skin’s health, strength, and elasticity). Genetics also plays a major part in where fat can accumulate and stay on the body.

CoolSculpting® Elite is a non-surgical procedure that can rid your body of unwanted back fat in as little as one treatment, in some cases. Because this procedure is non-surgical, it is a great alternative to undergoing surgical liposuction; however, the results of CoolSculpting® Elite take a little bit longer to reveal themselves. If you’re not ready to undergo surgery (and everything that comes with surgery, like anesthesia, incisions, and recovery time) or you don’t have an exorbitant amount of fat that you want to remove, then CoolSculpting® Elite could be the perfect option for you to consider to remove your back fat and sculpt your body, creating a new, noteworthy contour.

Am I a Candidate for Back Fat CoolSculpting® Elite?

First, you will need to schedule a consultation with the professionals at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center. During this appointment, you will be able to voice your aesthetic concerns and desires. Your physician will examine your back fat to see if you are truly a candidate for this treatment. Your physician will also review pre- and post-op instructions with you.

It is important to remember that CoolSculpting® Elite is not a weight-loss procedure. This means that patients need to be at or near their ideal weight, so that the newly contoured body shape can be seen and shown off more noticeably.

How Long Does It Take to Remove My Back Fat With CoolSculpting® Elite?

The length of your CoolSculpting® Elite treatment is dependent upon the amount of fat that needs to be removed. Treatments are typically completed in 30, 45, or 75-minute sessions. This gives patients plenty of time to relax, read a book, catch up on their favorite show, or even take a quick nap!

Because this treatment is non-surgical and doesn’t produce immediately noticeable results like liposuction, it does take some time for the fat to leave the body. Most patients begin to see improvement in their body contour after three weeks, though final results can take one to three months to settle. But, when those results become final, you will have a transformed and rejuvenated appearance that will have you feeling as good as you look. Take a look at some CoolSculpting® Elite back fat before and after photos to see results a few weeks after treatment sessions.

Would My Back Fat Results Be Permanent After CoolSculpting® Elite?

CoolSculpting® Elite results are permanent; although, you still need to do your part in keeping your body in shape and healthy. While the treated fat that dies off and is eliminated by the body is gone for good, the reality is that new fat cells can form over time. However, with proper self-care, including exercising and eating right, you can enjoy your CoolSculpting® Elite results for a long time.

Find Your Sanctuary Series, Part 1: Our Favorite Treatments

We all have our favorites, right? Food, drinks, clothes, TV shows…so why not have a favorite aesthetic treatment?! At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we have lots of favorites! We’re here to tell you about a few of our must-have wrinkle reduction, filler, and body-sculpting treatments that can help enhance your appearance and increase your confidence!

Wrinkle Reduction

One of the tell-tale signs of aging is the presence of wrinkles and fine lines on our faces. The problem is that wrinkles tend to make us look much older and more weathered than we actually are, and definitely older than we feel. While you can try to hide these skin blemishes under makeup, wouldn’t you rather just reduce the appearance of wrinkles altogether? Well, with BOTOX® Cosmetic, you can!

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a minimally invasive injectable treatment that helps to eliminate wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and around the mouth (frown lines). In addition, BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be used to treat skin imperfections on the chin and neck. This FDA-approved treatment revitalizes and rejuvenates your skin by using a prescribed medication to temporarily block signals from your nerves to your muscles. This allows the tightened muscles, which cause wrinkles, to relax. In the end, you will have smoother skin.

Fillers

One of the most trusted names in cosmetic treatments is JUVÉDERM®, which is a dermal filler that helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth. JUVÉDERM® helps to correct: marionette lines, smile lines, vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines), and wrinkles on the chin.

This treatment replenishes the hyaluronic acid (HA) in your skin that you lose over time. While the HA is rejuvenated, your skin will gain a more revitalized appearance and feel. While smoothing skin by reducing the presence of wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth, JUVÉDERM® can help restore lost facial volume to give you a fuller and healthier appearance that you’ll be excited to show off to others.

Body Sculpting

The CoolSculpting® brand offers some of the most dynamic body-sculpting results on the market, and the revolutionary CoolSculpting® Elite takes it to the next level. CoolSculpting® Elite is a non-invasive procedure that helps tighten skin on various places of your body (including your waist, stomach, thighs, and buttocks), while ridding your body of stubborn fat cells that just don’t go away, no matter how healthy you eat and how much you exercise. And the best part is that this treatment is successful and safe!

With CoolSculpting® Elite, subcutaneous fat is essentially frozen away. Our professionals will position the treatment area within the CoolSculpting® Elite device panels. The fat cells are targetted and destroyed, and over the next few months, your body will absorb the fat cells and eliminate them to leave you with a sleeker, more defined aesthetic. And the best part is that once the fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good.

It’s Gettin’ Hot in Here…Summer Ready With Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center

As the temperatures start to rise, it is important to keep your skin health in mind. This means wearing sunscreen to protect your skin, especially your face, and using a hat or other protective covering to shield your skin from the sun. In addition to protecting your skin, it is essential to maintain a dedicated skincare routine to nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate your skin. At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer many different skincare treatments for a glowing complexion.

HydraFacial®

Hydrating the skin is an essential part of looking and feeling great. HydraFacial® can help by cleaning deeper into the pores of your skin and hydrating the skin for a full refresh. This facial is a three-step process that begins with gentle exfoliation and cleansing to uncover new, fresh skin. Next, we extract and hydrate the skin by using a suction device to remove the dirt and debris from the pores and moisturize the treated area to quench the skin. Lastly, the skin is protected by soaking the skin with antioxidants and peptides to reveal a fully hydrated, luminous facial appearance. HydraFacial® addresses fine lines and wrinkles; skin tone, texture, and vibrancy; elasticity and firmness; and more!

Chemical Peels

Rejuvenate the overall health and appearance of your skin with a chemical peel. Chemical peels can be used on the face, hands, and neck for total rejuvenation. Most patients who undergo a chemical peel want to address their blotchy skin, wrinkles, age spots, and acne scars. There are three different classifications of chemical peels to choose from, depending on the goals you wish to achieve:

  • Superficial peels: targets the top layer of skin
  • Medium peels: targets the middle and top layer of skin
  • Deep peels: targets the middle layer of skin completely

Scheduling a consultation with our medical professionals can help you determine which grade of peel would be most helpful to you.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that exfoliates your skin and removes the dead skin cells and peach fuzz from the face. A scalpel is used to scrape off the material in fine brushstroke motions. Demaplaning is not painful, and patients find it somewhat relaxing as your skin reveals its new, fresh layer of radiant skin. This treatment is perfect for men and women who wish to eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.

We recommend scheduling your consultation to find out which skincare treatment is best for you as things start to heat up. And, as always, stay hydrated and wear your sunscreen!

Get to Know Our Lasers

Did you know that lasers can be used for a variety of cosmetic treatments? They can also provide different results, depending on what you are looking for. Whether you need skin resurfacing and correcting, hair removal, or even tattoo removal, Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center has you covered. With customized treatment plans and personalized care, your concerns will be addressed, and you will be on your way to smoother, clearer skin.

Skin Resurfacing & Correcting

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we offer many different options for laser skin resurfacing and correction. These lasers are designed to remove hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, facial veins, age spots, and more. They can also tighten your skin, making it firmer and providing you with a smooth, supple complexion.

  • MOXI™: This non-ablative laser uses light energy to reduce signs of aging, like wrinkles and fine lines, as well as skin pigmentation issues, like hyperpigmentation. This is a perfect treatment for men and women whose skin is beginning to show its age.
  • Halo™: This is a great treatment for helping reduce the appearance of more noticeable skin blemishes like sun damage and deep wrinkles and lines in the skin. Additionally, it can help lessen the appearance of scars and noticeable veins.
  • BBL™ Hero: This is one of the most efficient BroadBand Laser (BBL) treatments available, which lessens the appearance of age spots, redness, wrinkles and fine lines, and sun damage. One of the best aspects of this treatment is that it is faster, more powerful, and more comfortable than other laser treatments.
  • Sofwave™: This is a laser treatment that stimulates collagen growth in the eyebrow, submental, and neck regions of the face, causing a lifted and more youthful appearance.
  • NanoLaserPeel™: This laser peel removes a thin layer of the dermis to allow for healthier new skin to grow. After this treatment, the skin will look younger and more luminous.
  • Genius RF Microneedling: This treatment combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) to stimulate collagen and elastin, which are responsible for the strength and health of the skin. Microneedles create micro-injuries through which the RF energy penetrates, reducing the appearance of skin lesions like acne and wrinkles.

Laser Hair Removal

With the use of the GentleMax Pro® laser, we can provide patients with smooth, hair-free skin. Most patients have a desire to eliminate hair from their upper lip, chest, arms, armpits, legs, back, and bikini line. When the treatment areas are confirmed, the GentleMax Pro® can treat multiple areas at once. Laser hair removal works by using the laser’s energy in the treatment area to remove the hair from the follicle, which causes it to lose the ability to grow anymore hair. Results can show immediately, or it can take a few weeks, as hair grows in different stages. Some patients may require up to six laser hair removal sessions to achieve their desired outcome.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Do you have a tattoo on your body that you regret? Would you like to get rid of it? Look no further! We can help! At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, we use a Q-switched laser for laser tattoo removal to deliver quick pulses of light to the tattooed area. Q-switched lasers are effective at removing pigmented skin and stimulating collagen for a fresh new look. The ink absorbs the laser’s light and breaks down the colored pigment. After that, the body begins its natural healing process of removing the old, bad skin. New, fresh skin will emerge over time to reveal a smooth, blank canvas of healthy skin.
