Benefits of a Chemical Peel

Chemical peel? We know, it doesn’t sound appealing, but trust us—it can do wonders for your skin! A chemical peel treatment is one of the best things that you can do for the health of your skin. After your chemical peel treatment, you may find yourself surprised at the youthful and rejuvenated, skin quality that seems to carry a luminous glow! Although each peel varies with the needed treatment (which we will discuss later on), the general process is the same. First, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped for the chemical peel treatment. Next, a chemical solution is applied to the skin and left in place for a specified amount of time. During this process, the custom solution exfoliates the skin to reveal new and regenerated skin that will help you to look and feel better than you have in years.

Chemical peels are effective and safe for men and women of all ages and most skin types. Whether you are frustrated with skin that is betraying your age (whether you feel like you’re old or not) or your skin is showing the effects of your lifestyle like sun spots and hyperpigmentation, a chemical peel treatment can work wonders!

And what’s even better about chemical peels is that the benefits are far-reaching. From diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to acne to hyperpigmentation, chemical peels can provide you with rejuvenated and vibrant skin that you can be proud to show off! But, like so many other cosmetic treatments, the details can often be confusing. To help you with that, here is some information about chemical peels, including how this treatment can benefit you…

Chemical Peels Are NOT All the Same

While all chemical peels work the same way, they are not all the same. This misconception can be harmful to prospective patients who desire a specific type of treatment only to be told that it will not yield the results they are looking to have.

The skin condition that you are suffering from and want to correct is one of the most important aspects for helping your aesthetic specialist decide which type of chemical peel treatment you should have. In fact, there are three main types of peels, and each of them targets different layers of the skin, which ultimately provides different results:

  • Superficial peels: Target the top layer of skin
  • Medium peels: Target the middle and top layer of skin
  • Deep peels: Fully target the middle layer of skin

As with any plastic surgery or cosmetic treatment, your consultation is vital to the success of your procedure. That is because your consultation allows you a chance to meet with your skin specialists to discuss your aesthetic frustrations and concerns as well as allow your skincare provider the chance to create a treatment plan for you. During your consultation at Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, one of our trained and skilled Medical Aestheticians will completely examine your skin and go over your goals to determine which chemical peel treatment is the best for your skin issues and needs at this time. As we mentioned earlier, all chemical peels provide rejuvenating benefits, but finding the right one will help you achieve results that you can feel proud of!

The Benefits of a Chemical Peel

At Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center, whichever chemical peel treatment you have performed, you can feel assured that you will receive the highest quality treatment and results possible.

Chemical peels not only reveal a brighter, smoother, and more radiant complexion, but they also improve the overall look and feel of the facial skin in just one treatment. That is because a chemical peel actively works by removing the dead cells and other dirt and grime from your skin to allow for new, healthy, and revitalized skin to show.

Chemical peels can:

  • Reduce lines and wrinkles
  • Improve acne
  • Diminish scars
  • Address hyperpigmentation
  • Increase and improve skin texture

Should I Get Chemical Peels Consistently?

Undergoing chemical peels in a series can provide both men and women with even more noticeable results. It is important to understand that, like so many other cosmetic treatments, a chemical peel is not a one-and-done procedure. Because your skin cells are constantly dying and dirt is consistently clogging your pores and affecting the quality of your skin, you need to treat yourself with chemical peels just as consistently (usually about once a month).

In addition to having maintenance treatments over a set amount of time, many patients choose to undergo three or more chemical peels spaced about five weeks apart. This allows your skin to jumpstart its rejuvenation. Essentially, by having a series of treatments, you are giving your skin an enhanced exfoliation since the chemical peel is reaching the deeper layers of the epidermis. This process stimulates cellular turnover, which then increases collagen and elastin (the proteins in your body responsible for the health, strength, and elasticity of the skin). Because of this, you should be able to see and feel your new, fresh, and glowing skin.

What Should I Avoid After My Chemical Peel?

Many people have the misunderstanding that once they have their chemical peel, they no longer need to worry about keeping their skin treated and maintained. In fact, it’s the complete opposite.

After your chemical peel, it is recommended that you avoid the sun, wear sunscreen if you must go out, and do not let your face dry out. Hydrating and moisturizing are crucial when it comes to healing from your chemical peel. Strenuous workouts should also be avoided as they can increase blood flow, which can sometimes lead to itching, tingling, or other unwanted side effects after your peel. As we mentioned earlier, it is necessary to understand that your chemical peel treatment will not give you permanent and long-lasting results. Avoid peeling the dead skin that will start to slough off after a few days of receiving the peel treatment. Let your skin work on its own. You can use a gentle, warm washcloth in the shower, but keep the pressure very gentle and do not go over the same area repeatedly. You have to continuously treat your changing skin condition, which works on a cyclical basis. That means scheduling and having maintenance treatments. With proper treatments and care, you can feel proud of your smooth, soft, glowing skin that can have you smiling each time you look in the mirror!
