ESKATA™ Raised SK Treatment (Seborrheic Keratosis)
What is seborrheic keratosis?
Seborrheic keratosis (or SK) is a skin condition that characterized by flat spots or raised bumps on the skin. SKs can appear on any part of the body but are most commonly found on the face, neck, chest, and back. While they pose no health risks or physical pain, women and men with SKs are often self-conscious about their skin’s appearance and may struggle to hide or cover the affected areas.
What causes seborrheic keratosis?
SKs are known to develop with age, and a person’s genetics may also make him or her more susceptible to SKs. This skin condition is extremely common and affects both women and men. Flat SKs are often velvety or shiny in texture but can thicken and become raised over time. These raised SK bumps are more noticeable, waxy or rough in texture, and tend to grow with age.
How can raised sks be treated?
At Sanctuary Medical Center, we are able to treat raised SKs quickly and effectively with ESKATA. This non-invasive topical treatment is administered in-office at our Boca Raton medical center and takes just minutes to complete.
To prepare your raised SK treatment with ESKATA, the affected area(s) of skin will be cleaned and dried with isopropyl alcohol. ESKATA is administered using a handheld, pen-like device that releases a 40% hydrogen peroxide solution when pressed firmly against the skin. Your Boca Raton skin specialist will firmly press the pen against the targeted SK, gently rubbing the area in a circular motion for about 20 seconds. This is repeated up to four times per lesion at roughly one-minute intervals. Once the solution is completely dried, the treated SK will appear white and frosted.
In about three weeks, you should notice the treated SK nearly completely vanished. Some patients may need to undergo additional treatments to fully treat their SK lesions.
