Fractional Resurfacing in Boca Raton, FL

Located in Boca Raton and serving the residents of West Palm Beach and all of South Florida, Sanctuary Medical Center offers Fractional Resurfacing treatments as well as other laser resurfacing treatments to those who desire healthy looking skin and a more youthful appearance through cosmetic laser treatments.

What is Fractional Resurfacing?

Fractional resurfacing is a laser skin treatment where only a fraction of the skin receives laser therapy. Rather than treating an entire section of skin, fractional resurfacing treats much smaller area–leaving the untreated areas around the treated areas alone–which results in less visible side effects, such as scabbing. Fractional resurfacing is an excellent treatment for reducing the signs of aging and repairing the skin due to scarring.

How Does Fractional Resurfacing Work?

With fractional resurfacing, the light from the laser delivers very precise therapy to damaged skin in narrow and deep columns that go below the skin’s surface. It essentially treats a fraction of the skin rather than an entire area. The treated areas heal faster because the surrounding healthy skin is not affected. The surrounding healthy skin cells help promote faster healing and ultimately lead to smooth, healthy skin. Fractional resurfacing presents fewer side effects and a quicker recovery than other techniques.

On What Part of My Body Can You Perform Fractional Resurfacing?

Fractional resurfacing can be used on nearly any area of the body that is showing signs of aging or noticeable scarring. It is most often used on the face–specifically around the eyes and mouth–but can be also be used on other areas like the neck, chest, and even the back of your hands.

How Long Do the Treatments Take?

Fractional resurfacing treatments typically take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the extent of the area requiring treatment.

Does Fractional Resurfacing Hurt?

Most patients do not complain of pain or discomfort, but, if necessary, a topical anesthesia can be applied to alleviate any discomfort.

How Many Fractional Resurfacing Treatments Do I Need?

Because each treatment works on small portions of the skin, it generally takes four to six treatments, depending on the nature of your issues, to achieve the full effects of fractional resurfacing. Each one is spaced a few weeks apart with optimum results taking place within six months after the final treatment. During your initial evaluation, we will discuss the entire process and whether fractional resurfacing is the best treatment for you.

When Will I See Results?

Many patients begin to see results following each treatment. The full effects of fractional resurfacing may take up to six months as the skin heals and then rebuilds itself.

Are There Any Side Effects with Fractional Resurfacing?

Typically, there is some visible redness and minor swelling around the treated area immediately following the treatments though most is gone by the next day. You may experience some flaking or natural exfoliation as the skin repairs itself. Continued redness in the treated areas is a sign that the skin is repairing itself. If you have any concerns, please call us immediately.
